There was a large, black rook with a vicious looking beak at my bird feeder. Nothing else, not even the crows, would go near while it was there. So of course I had to paint it. A painting of a grown up Red and her faithful companion. It was easily the biggest painting I've attempted at a metre across. I was aiming for a cool image with a playful side (Red trying for a badass pose but her big, dumb dog has put its leg down on her fancy cloak).

A Lonely Place To Rest. This was an image that popped into my head, of a skull in a shallow pool or swamp, a leftover of some long forgotten tragedy. I wanted to include the dragonfly sitting on top of the skull to juxtapose life and death, and to add a flash of colour. Originally painted in acrylic. Watercolour painting that I painted of a parrot that was sitting on my neighbour's chimney

I live in a small town in north west England called Kirkby Stephen. It's surrounded by sheep fields and empty moors and it tends to be grey and wet. It's also home to a small colony of semi-feral parrots that live in a sanctuary just outside of town and can often be seen sitting on chimney stacks or flying over the grazing sheep. This was a watercolour I did of one of the parrots flying over the field behind my house.
