Description: The second Trump tariffs are trade initiatives imposed by Donald Trump, the 47th president of the United States, principally in the form of tariffs imposed on foreign imports starting in 2025. Since before becoming President in 2017, Trump has promoted tariffs on imports to retaliate against countries that he believes are "ripping off" the United States. Tariffs were imposed against China, Canada, and Mexico, continuing a trade war with China and initiating a trade war with Canada in spite of the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement negotiated by Trump when he was previously president. Tariffs on Mexico were postponed.
Description: Whaling in the Faroe Islands, or grindadráp (from the Faroese terms grindhvalur, meaning pilot whale, and dráp, meaning killing), is a type of drive hunting that involves herding various species of whales and dolphins, but primarily pilot whales, into shallow bays to be beached, killed, and butchered. Each year, an average of around 700 long-finned pilot whales are caught, alongside varying numbers of Atlantic white-sided dolphins.
Description: Tahlequah (born c. 1998), also known as J35, is an orca of the southern resident community in the northeastern Pacific Ocean. She has given birth to four known offspring, a male (Notch) in 2010, a female (Tali) in 2018, another male (Phoenix) in 2020, and an unnamed female calf in 2024. Her second calf, Tali, died shortly after birth and J35 carried her body for 17 days in an apparent show of grief that attracted international attention. Her fourth calf died within days of her birth and was also carried by Tahlequah.
Description: There are a few different methods used to catch tuna, and many of them result in unintentionally catching other species of fish or sea animals, such as turtles, dolphins, and sharks. These other animals, known in the industry as “bycatch”, are trapped in nets along with the tuna, or are hooked when they bite onto bait intended for tuna in longline fishing. Each year, hundreds of thousands of non-target animals die needlessly as a result of bycatch.
