Description: The " Dance of the Forty-One " was a police raid carried out on November 18, 1901, during the regime of President Porfirio Díaz . It took place in the Tabacalera neighborhood of Mexico City , against a men's dance being held on La Paz Street, of whom 21 were dressed as men and 21 as women. Forty-two men participated in the dance, but only 41 were arrested, hence the name. The Mexican press turned the event into a scandal, despite the government's efforts to cover it up, since those arrested belonged to the upper class of Porfirian society, including Ignacio de la Torre y Mier , the president's son-in-law, and it was one of the most notorious scandals of the early 20th century .
