Description: The Cromford Canal ran 14.5 miles (23.3 kilometres) from Cromford to the Erewash Canal in Derbyshire, England with a branch to Pinxton. Built by William Jessop with the assistance of Benjamin Outram, its alignment included four tunnels and 14 locks and was completed in 1794. Today, it is partially navigable and partially derelict. The parts that are still navigable are lovely to walk beside, and it is one of these sections that I have depicted here. Description: This picture, executed in Staedtler Karat Aquarell watercolour pencils, shows a view of the iconic Mam Tor Gate above Castleton in the Peak District. Mam Tor (hill) is known locally as "The Shivering Mountain", as its loose shale leads to frequent landslides. It's a great place for hikers, providing great views of Edale Valley and Hope Valley, and the remains of the Iron Age hill fort on the top of the tor, with its encircling ramparts below. In the summer, the abundant heather blankets the whole area in purple. This picture shows sunrise on a summer morning.
Description: A watercolour pencil depiction of the Salt Cellar with Derwent Edge in the background. Derwent Edge is a Millstone Grit escarpment that lies above the Upper Derwent Valley in the Peak District National Park in the English county of Derbyshire. The Salt Cellar is one of the most famous gritstone tors (rock formations) in this area. It is one of the last remains of the gritstone which originally covered all of the Peak District, most of which was scraped off by glaciers in the last ice age. The original of this is executed in Staedtler karat aquarell on A3 vif Art watercolour paper.
Description: The Woolpacks is a natural rock formation on the Kinder Scout moorland plateau and national nature reserve in the Dark Peak of the Derbyshire Peak District in England. The woolpacks is a group of natural gritstone rock formations high up on Kinder Scout, just West of Crowden Head. They are named after the old-fashioned bundles that wool used to be transported in. This picture was executed in Staedtler Karat Aquarell watercolour pencils on vif Art watercolour paper.
