Honey Bee on Flower, Colored Pencil and Watercolor Pencil on Duralar film, by Conni Schaftenaar. This is the finished piece that started with the simple honey bee (elsewhere on my gallery) done to use for a logo. I used Prismacolor pencils for the bee and the flowers, but discovered that it was practically impossible to get the background to lay down smoothly on the Duralar with the colored pencils - but it lends itself to the drawing beautifully. So I got out my Raffiné watercolor pencils and experimented on another sheet - I discovered that I could activate the pencil marks (actually wet the pencil before smudging down color) with water on a brush and get it to flow around on the Duralar film similarly to using watercolor or alc...

Honey bees and wildflowers. A pattern and placement illustration inspired by the beauty of bees. My intent with every bee illustration I do is to bring awareness to their importance as pollinators for our gardens. We need these fuzzy little yellow insects.
