Buxton Bags
Description: We had been staying in Buxton, Derbyshire, primarily to spend some time in the Peak District National Park. However, we also knew of Buxton's history as a spa town, the Midland's answer to Bath, and couldn't help but notice some of the grand building around the town. Buxton was a destination town for those who wanted to take in the spa waters, but when not bathing, a grand opera house would be a fine addition, nay a cultural highlight, of such a visit. The opera house, according to Wikipedia, was built in 1903. What I love about the image, is the dynamic viewpoint I was able to obtain, where a wide angle let me capture the main elements of the building's facade. Anyway, I do hope you enjoy the image.
Description: In 1947 Portland, Maine, banker Andy Dufresne is convicted of murdering his wife and her lover and is sentenced to two consecutive life sentences at the Shawshank State Penitentiary. Description: This is an image of the ceiling of the Assembly Room within the Buxton Crescent. We were wandering around Buxton when it was mentioned to us that the room was going to be open to the public that morning. It was quite something to see, and not something that is normally openly available as it is a function space within a hotel. It would seem that the room was originally a ballroom when Buxton Crescent, a crescent shaped building in planform, was built in the early 1700s. It would have been a place for entertainment for wealthy visitors who were there to 'take the waters' at the spa. History aside, the room is spectacular. I do hope you enjoy the image.
