The highest point is Abbotsbury Castle, a small iron age hill fort, once occupied by the Celtic Durotriges tribe, 215 metres above sea level, and overlooking the English channel. Subtropical Gardens, Abbotsbury Number of views as of 7th February 2018 = 760. The subtropical gardens at Abbotsbury (between Weymouth and Bridport, West Dorset, England) were established in the 1760s by the Fox-Strangways family, the Earls of Ilchester. The estate was once their home but sadly the house burnt down in 1913. The gardens, however, continue to thrive and this year (2015) marks the 250th anniversary of their creation.
