Abbotsbury Magnets

Wears Hill, Abbotsbury Number of views as of 10th January 2018 = 2790. North-west of Weymouth (Dorset, England), and south-west of Dorchester, Wears Hill stands high above the village of Abbotsbury and provides outstanding views of Chesil Beach and Lyme Bay. The highest point is Abbotsbury Castle, a small iron age hill fort, once occupied by the Celtic Durotriges tribe, 215 metres above sea level, and overlooking the English channel. This shot was taken from the Dorset Coast Path between West Bexington and Abbotsbury. Date: 13th June 2010.

Visible for miles around and offering fine views of the English Channel and surrounding countryside, Hardy's monument was built in 1844 on Black Down, about 6 miles south west of Dorchester, not far from the village of Portesham, in Dorset, England. The 72 foot high monument is dedicated to Vice Admiral Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy, a commander at the Battle of Trafalgar, and not to novelist Thomas Hardy, who also has local connections. Subtropical Gardens, Abbotsbury Number of views as of 7th February 2018 = 760. The subtropical gardens at Abbotsbury (between Weymouth and Bridport, West Dorset, England) were established in the 1760s by the Fox-Strangways family, the Earls of Ilchester. The estate was once their home but sadly the house burnt down in 1913. The gardens, however, continue to thrive and this year (2015) marks the 250th anniversary of their creation.
