Goring Lock on the River Thames on a sunny October day. There has been a lock here since the 1500s when it was a flash lock, In the 1700s it was redesigned as a pound lock and was constructed of timber, The present lock dates from the 1920s. Goring-on-Thames is a picturesque village in Oxfordshire and is a haunt of artists (and photographers!). Here the river narrows to pass between the North Wessex Downs and the Chiltern Hills at the point known as the Goring Gap.

Boathouses on the banks of the River Thames at Goring opposite the lock and just upstream from the old mill. Goring is an extremely picturesque village on the north bank of the Thames in Oxfordshire, just over the river from Streatley in Berkshire. Here the river flows through the Goring Gap between the Chiltern Hills in the north and the Berkshire or North Wessex Downs in the south. Being so picturesque, Goring is a favourite location for photographers and painters - including JM Turner!

The scene from the toll bridge at Whitchurch on Thames in Oxfordshire. The church of St Mary stands above the cottages which surround the old mill - no longer working but converted into flats. However, two large water wheels can be seen beneath the building, The church, originally built in Norman times underwent an extensive rebuilding programme during the Victorian period. Whitchurch is across the Thames and just north of the village of Pangbourne in Berkshire.

This is the view standing on the Thames Path just below the lock, looking under the bridge towards the Goring Gap where the river flows between the Chiltern Hills and the North Wessex Downs.

Half timbered cottages in the village of Checkendon Oxfordshire. This village lies At the start of the Chiltern Hills as they rise on the north side of the River Thames. Many of the houses here are wooden framed with brick infill. These cottages line the road through Checkendon as it winds its way from Woodcote to Stoke Row. The Abbey Church of St Peter and St Paul in the village of Dorchester-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. It is also the village's parish church. This beautiful old church has a long history, originally dating back to AD635. However, the Abbey itself was founded in 1140, built by an Order of Augustinian Canons. Its medieval heritage is seen inside - particularly by an effigy of a knight. A Jesse window's stone tracery depicts the stem of Jesse and is a feature of the building.

Abstract art design is one of the most influential and impactful movements in the history of modern art. The abstract movement represents a fine displacement of figurative elements, with the focus on shapes and lines to create simple yet captivating compositions. In Minimalism, forms are simplified to their most essential expression - this is the hallmark essence of this style.

The backwater as the Thames divides above the lock and weir at Goring on Thames in Oxfordshire. This was once the supply of water to the mill where it still rushes through the sluices to the wheel pit. Here, beside the boathouses lining the river bank, craft of all types are moored - now probably for the winter! In this view captured on a day in early October the lock keeper's cottage can be seen in the background.

A corner of the Checker Hall, part of the abbey buildings at Abingdon, Oxfordshire. The abbey was founded in about 675AD and developed into a large Benedictine monastery. It was finally surrendered to the King in 1538 by the last Abbot, Thomas Pentecost.

An old Oxford college barge hiding in a backwater of the River Thames between Oxford and Iffley. A number of barges like this were bought by the Oxford colleges' rowing clubs in the mid 1800s as changing rooms and viewing platforms for spectators during races. They have now been sold off and can be occasionally found as floating function rooms etc. Club houses were built to replace them and can be found near Christ Church Meadows in Oxford.

At its centre is the parish church surrounded by old brick built cottages and almshouses. The church dates from the 11th century with additions constructed later in medieval times. The church, standing above the village and overlooking the River Thames dates back to the 12th century. This image captured on a sunny late spring evening from the Thames Path National Trail which starts at Cricklade and continues on to the Thames Barrier in London.

Blewbury is a picturesque village in Oxfordshire nestling in a dip of the North Wessex Downs and lying between Streatley (Berkshire) and Wantage (Oxfordshire), the nearest town being Didcot. Its maze of small streets and lanes are lined with both brick and half-timbered buildings. Several springs rise in the village feeding a small lake and in times past watercress was cultivated here. The moorings on the riverside at Henley on Thames in Oxfordshire . Quiet now in winter but in summer a hive of activity with pleasure boats and visitors. In the background is the bridge built in 1786, now Grade 1 listed and with a weight limit for traction engines! To the left is the tower of the 16th century parish church of St Mary the Virgin. This stretch of the river is famous for boat racing and nearby is the River and Rowing Museum.

Oxford is one of the cities in the UK with Oxford University as the most famous and most advanced university with the best quality education
