THE OCTOPUS MACHINE was conceived in 2005 by Joe Taylor as a solo project. Taylor took inspiration from various musical styles and genres such as Industrial, Punk, Hip Hop, Metal and Classical and many more. In 2006 life long friend and musician Ryan Stike joined the band. By 2009 The Octopus Machine became a six piece. The music on these albums reflects many changes, styles and years.

Under the Flag is the third studio album released on September 1, 1982, by experimental electronic artist Fad Gadget, the stage name for Frank Tovey. Recorded at Blackwing Studios in London, the album largely focused on his fear for the future of the world, in light of having just become a father. He was apparently afraid of the world his daughter was going to grow up in. Sampling was new technology back in the early '80s, is incorporated into the album, and sequencing is also heavily used.
