Description: This design is my artistic enhancement of a photograph of a relief that sits online in the public domain section of the Met Museum. Scholars are unsure as to the direct attribution but say she represents a goddess or queen in ancient Egypt around 400-200 B.C. The breast is pronounced so her nurturing role is probably important.
Description: She can fit into places an ordinary Medusa cannot and she also has strong wings for flying. Whimsical, wise, and wild, this Medusa packs a one-two punch, every bit as powerful as any proper waywardmuse. Let her play and work for you. The results will be nothing less than extraordinary.
Description: Many women have a truth they lost or fear to share due to social stigma. Once they find it, reclaim it, and show it to the world, all fear disappears and they become more powerful than those who oppress them, because the cliché is true: the truth will make you free. This Medusa reminds us of that and more.
Description: In the Aztec pantheon, Coyolxauhqui (pronounced “Coyolshquee”), is the daughter of Coatlique. She and her brothers attempted to murder their mother who is the mother of all deities. Yet it turns out that Coyolxauhqui has a redeeming but complicated quality. While she may have been defeated and dismembered, her parts transformed into the phases of the enduring moon, providing light for those in darkness. According to Chicana feminist Gloria Anzaldua, this metamorphosis represents powerful healing and resilience. So Coyolxauhqui serves as a major symbol for survival and transformation.
