Price Club was a warehouse store chain, founded by Sol Price in San Diego, California. Price devised the Price Club concept in 1975 after being forced out of FedMart, another retail chain he founded. Price and a few of his friends put up $2.5 million in capital to open the first Price Club on July 12, 1976 in San Diego. Price Club would eventually merge with one of its competitors and the combined company would go on to become the global leader in the wholesale shopping club space with more than 800 warehouses worldwide as of 2021.

Filene's opened its famous "Automatic Bargain Basement" in 1909, which became a much-visited tourist attraction. Goods were marked down according to an automatic schedule; an item that had been on sale for 12 days was marked down by 25 percent, after 18 days by 50 percent, after 24 days by 75 percent, and after 30 days it was given away. Famous for the Running of the Brides which was a one-day sale of wedding gowns, garnering local media attention because of the sight of hundreds of brides-to-be scrambling for bargains. The store stocked thousands of gowns for that day and marked them down drastically; gowns were non-returnable. Prices ranged from $249.00 to $699.00, marked down from retail prices as high as $9,000.

J. W. Robinson Co., Robinson's, was a chain of upscale department stores that operated in Southern California and Arizona. Robinson's gleaming flagship store was located on Seventh Street, slightly off the Broadway retail corridor in Los Angeles. Robinson's - often mentioned by Johnny Carson' on the Tonight Show - was a bastion of luxury and good taste for the Southern California's carriage trade. It was eventually bought by the May Co. and became Robinsons-May.

FedMart was a chain of discount department stores started by Sol Price, who later founded Price Club. It was originally a discount department store open to government employees, who paid a membership fee of just $2 per family. FedMart’s first location in San Diego, California was in a converted airport hangar and the store’s first year was highly successful, exceeding all expectations. Over the next 20 years, FedMart grew to include 45 stores in a chain that generated more than $300 million in annual sales and expanded to several states in the Southwest United States with many locations being previous White Front or Two Guys stores.

Remembering the classy Bullock’s Department Store. Bullock's was a chain of full-line department stores from 1907 through 1995, headquartered in Los Angeles, growing to operate across California, Arizona and Nevada. Bullock's also operated as many as seven more upscale Bullocks Wilshire specialty department stores stores across Southern California.

Fisher's Big Wheel was a discount department store chain. It was formed in 1939 following the consolidation of the Fisher Dry Goods company and a hardware store called Big Wheel. Fisher's Big Wheel was primarily located in smaller towns which were not already served by other discount retailers. At its peak, the chain comprised more than 100 stores in 8 states. The chain declared bankruptcy in 1993, selling some stores and closing others. Fisher's Big Wheel closed in 1994.

Bullocks Wilshire was the name of an upscale department store chain. The Los Angeles store was the flagship; it had seven stores total. Bullocks Wilshire, located at 3050 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, California, is a 230,000-square-foot (21,000 m2) Art Deco building. The building opened in September 1929 as a luxury department store for owner John G. Bullock (owner of the more mainstream Bullock's in Downtown Los Angeles).

Remembering Meier & Frank Department Stores. Meier & Frank was a prominent chain of department stores founded in Portland, Oregon, operating in the Pacific Northwest from 1857 to 2006. For a time, Meier & Frank reigned as the largest retail outlet west of the Mississippi and one of the largest stores in the nation in the early 1930s. It was considered as one of America’s great stores. Meier & Frank pioneered the concept of a "money-back guarantee", until then unheard-of in merchandising. Clark Gable worked at Meier & Frank selling neckties.

The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, better known as A&P, was an American chain of grocery stores that ceased supermarket operations.

Be the king of your own castle with the high fashion, 80's inspired Chess King shirt. Founded in 1968, Chess King was a clothing retailer whose concept was a teen shop with highly identifiable stores that had bold coloring and designs aimed at the 12-to-20 male market. In November 1995, the Chess King chain was closed.

S. S. Kresge, founded in 1899, was a Detroit-born dime store where shoppers could find daily needs such as housewares, linens, clothing, school supplies, and toys. It was one of America’s top three variety store chains and had 742 stores by its 40th anniversary in 1938, primarily in the Midwest and eastern U.S. In 1962 Harry B. Cunningham president of Kresge, opened the first Kmart discount store in Garden City, Michigan. Kmart stores expanded nationwide, eventually replacing Kresge stores, the last of which were sold to the McCrory Corporation by 1987.

Check out this Dayton's Department Store Minneapolis Minnesota Vintage Retro design. Dayton's was a department store chain founded in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1902 by George Draper Dayton. The 6-story department store was located on the corner of 7th Street and Nicollet Avenue. It was a twin cities institution and known for beautiful holiday displays.

Mirwood Records was an American record label founded by former Vee-Jay executive Randy Wood in Los Angeles in 1965. The Mirwood label was a sister label to Mira Records. It primarily released rhythm and blues and jazz recordings, and has been described as "among the definitive Northern soul labels". Many of its records were written and produced by Fred Smith and arranged by James Carmichael, who (according to Jason Ankeny at AllMusic) "hone[d] a distinctive style all their own, creating soul music that was both relentlessly energetic and sweetly sophisticated, topped off by trademark vibes that evoked the otherworldly beauty of a Pacific Ocean sunset".

Remembering Gottschalks Department Store. Gottschalks was a American department store chain that operated 58 department stores and three specialty apparel stores in six western states (California, Washington, Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Nevada). Gottschalks was founded by Emil Gottschalk in 1904 as a dry goods store in downtown Fresno, California. Gottschalks gained success by locating only in smaller cities that could not support full-size national department stores.

Incredible Universe was the name of a chain of consumer electronics stores in the early to mid '90s that were a joint venture between Tandy Corporation and Trans World Entertainment. A typical store was 185,000 square feet of sales floor and warehouse, stocking around 85,000 items. The store's borrowed philosophies from theme parks with retail departments being "scenes," employees were "cast members," customers were "guests,"and so forth. The stores featured a large rotunda area with a stage where sales presentations, product demonstrations, autograph signings, and musical acts could perform. Retail departments (software, music and video, and accessories) were accessible from the rotunda, making it a hub of sorts for the store.

Musicor Records was a New York City-based record label, active during the 1960s and 1970s. The label was founded by songwriter Aaron Schroeder and distributed by United Artists Records. In 1965, UA employee and A&R man Arthur Talmadge (a co-founder of Mercury Records years earlier) started his own Talmadge Productions company and, along with fellow UA employee/A&R man Harold "Pappy" Daily, bought the Musicor label from UA.

Remembering L. S. Ayres Department Store. L. S. Ayres and Company was based in Indianapolis, Indiana, and founded in 1872 by Lyman S. Ayres. Over the years its Indianapolis flagship store, which opened in 1905 and was later enlarged, became known for its women's fashions, the Tea Room, holiday events and displays, and the basement budget store. A long-time Ayres slogan, "That Ayres Look", promoted the company as a fashion leader, and by 1972 it had become the oldest continuous retail slogan in the United States.

Remembering Hens & Kelly Department Store in Buffalo NY. Hens and Kelly, established in 1892 by Mathias J. Hens and Patrick J. Kelly, was a chain of department stores based in Buffalo, New York. The downtown store was located at 478 Main Street at the corner of Mohawk Street. They were early adopters of S&H Green Stamps as a promotional incentive for repeat customers. This was a rewards program that provided stamps with each purchase. These stamps could be used to buy products from a catalogue at a later date.

Remembering Sibley’s Department Store. Sibley, Lindsay & Curr Company, known informally as Sibley's, was a Rochester, New York-based department store chain with stores located exclusively in the state of New York. Its flagship store was at 228 East Main Street in downtown Rochester and at 1.1 million square feet it was the largest department store between New York City and Chicago. Sibley's is fondly remembered as the premier department store in upstate New York.
