Beautiful pastel colours of cherry blossom and blue sky are a sure sign that spring is on the way. This image was taken near River Wansbeck at Sheepwash, Northumberland and has been given a soft pastel filter to emphasise the delicate colours and the file size has been increased to allow larger prints.

The sheep pen is located next to the River Coquet which runs through the Coquet Valley of Northumberland, close to the Scottish Borders. The sheep pens are located on the valley floor. The sheep are moved from the surrounding hills during what can be very severe winters.

This image was taken at Collywell Bay, Seaton Sluice on the North East Coast of England in the County of Northumberland looking out over the sea stack (known locally as Charlie's Garden) towards the rising sun.

The lighthouse on St. Mary’s Island in Whitley Bay, Northumberland, was constructed in 1898 using some of the stone from the former priory on the island. St. Mary’s lighthouse was decommissioned in 1984m after which North Tyneside Council opened it as a visitor attraction. The lighthouse became a Grade II listed building in 2012 and St. Mary’s Island is now a nature reserve.

These wild flowers were spotted in Ridley Park, Blyth, Northumberland. The bed was planted in 2015 as part of a national scheme to encourage native English wild flowers and it now abundant with many colourful species.

Masses of these lovely water lilies are growing wild in an old reservoir near Blyth in Northumberland on the North East coast of England and provide a beautiful splash of colour and almost translucent flowers in summertime.

After a foggy morning, the dew gathered on a spider's web providing a beautiful pattern to which I added a Craquelure texture to enhance the background and allow the web to stand out. The web had been spun from dead Cow Parsley plants in Blyth, Northumberland.

These Sea Thrift (Armeria maritima) flowers were photographed on Rocky Island, Seaton Sluice in Northumberland. The beautiful pink flowers have been given a smudged effect to emphasise the delicacy of the flowers.

This blackbird (Turdus merula) was spotted perched on a Hawthorne bush covered with May Blossom amongst the sand dunes between Blyth and Seaton Sluice in Northumberland. A lovely sight on a cool spring day in May.

These beautiful Rhododendron bushes were spotted in Ridley Park, Blyth, Northumberland on the North East coast of England. The abundant flowers were nicely set up under a dark blue sky and next to mature trees showing their spring colours.

This is sad. I took this image on the 5th of September, 2023, while visiting the Northumberland National Park in the UK. The tree was iconic, it had even appeared in a movie. Three weeks after I took the image, someone maliciously cut it down in the dead of the night. The tree had sat next to the wall the Roman Emperor Hadrian built (Hadrian's Wall) to keep the Scots out, parts of which are visible in the image, in a natural dip in the landscape known as Sycamore Gap. I feel fortunate to have been able to visit this place before some deranged person felled this stunningly placed tree. In planning my trip, Sycamore Gap was very high on the list of things I wanted to see. I'm just glad I got there before the woodsman.
