Yorkshire Dales, Dead Tree This stunning black and white photograph was taken in one of our favourite places for a long weekend away, or even longer. This is called God's country for a reason, as you can see. The clouds were dancing on this particular day and made for a dramatic image made all the better by the monochrome conversion. This tree is no longer here in Carperby village and that is a huge shame for us photographers as it makes for the perfect focal point. Solva Quay harbour St Brides bay, Pembrokeshire, Wales Solva is a harbour village on St Brides bay, Pembrokeshire. Nestled in the Pembrokeshire National Park, a few miles from St David’s, it boasts a bustling quay with plenty to do and a charming little village to wander around. Solva Harbour is a good example of a ria — a flooded coastal valley or inlet. Local rocks contain fossils from the Cambrian period, and the village gives its name to the Solva Group, a rock sequence. Newgale Pebble Beach Enormous! is the only way to describe this beach; it’s almost 2 miles of sand backed by a huge pebble bank formed after a BIG storm in 1859. This photo is a close up of just a small proportion of the pebbles on this huge beach front. Kitesurfing and surfing are popular on this beach and tuition is available. Walk right down to the southern end to find a walk-through cave and numerous sheltered bays. Cross the river, at the back of the pebble bank opposite the cafe at the north end to gain access to several low tide bays. Spurn Point Lighthouse And Groynes The current Spurn Point Lighthouse was established in 1895. After it was decommissioned in 1985, the lighthouse lay derelict for a number of years until it was restored in 2016. Guided tours are available through the Spurn Discovery Centre, which the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust runs. The centre also has on display a section of the former optic from the lighthouse. The current tower replaced the previous old High Lighthouse. It was originally surrounded by accommodation, but the foundations are now overgrown and barely visible. M5 Stuart Light Tank The core reason behind the development of the M5 was probably the rapidly growing demand for radial engines, which were in short supply. Therefore, other sources were approached in order to have the tank production still running in early 1941. In June, OCM 16837 authorized the installation of two Cadillac engines mated on a single crankshaft and hydramatic transmission and auxiliary transmission M3 (transfer case). Cadillac had been, indeed, rarely involved with wartime production until then. The combination of systems gave 6 speeds forward and one reverse, and a very smooth steering. Ashness Bridge, Lake District, Cumbria, UK Ashness Bridge is a traditional stone-built bridge on the single-track road from the Borrowdale road (B5289) to Watendlath, in the English Lake District, Cumbria. The brisge is at grid reference NY270196, and is known for being a fine viewpoint across Borrowdale towards Skiddaw, including views of Derwent Water nearby. It or its predecessor may have been a packhorse bridge conveying packhorse traffic from Watendlath to Keswick. Honister Pass Slate Mine Before we left for our Cumbrian holidays, this is one of the photographs that I really wanted to get. Last time we came I couldn't find a place to stop and get this shot and once you have passed the walls it would be very hard to turn around and come back. The Honister Slate Mine in Cumbria is the last working slate mine in England. Quarrying for Westmorland green slate has been taking place in the area since 1728. Apart from the mining it is also a popular tourist attraction in the Lake District National Park. This image looks it's best in a large format print, canvas or anything but it must be BIG.

Trees On The Rocks I just loved this scene and it came out perfectly. What I really like was how the trees look so perfect that they imitate Bonsai trees, although they are full size. We found these on a walk in Grasmere in Cumbria and they just caught my eye. As always, my camera came out and I framed the scene, the only problem comes with trying to think of a title and how to describe this view. I hope I have done this justice and enticed you in. Donna Nook is a point on the low-lying coast of north-Lincolnshire, England, north of the village of North Somercotes and south of Grimsby. The area, a salt marsh, is used by a number of Royal Air Force stations in Lincolnshire for bombing practice and shares its name with RAF Donna Nook. Newark Castle On The River Trent Newark Castle, in Newark-on-Trent, in the English county of Nottinghamshire was founded in the mid 12th century by Alexander, Bishop of Lincoln. Originally a timber castle, it was rebuilt in stone towards the end of the century.
