Its to be expected that Royals and Royal birds enjoy 'swanning around'... and Why not...??? Some of my Welsh friends would see it otherwise... Such Regal birds and monarchs alike are the 'pomp and ceremony' of our temperate climate... and to add to that ~ our Welsh Tourism and swanky hotels are dependent upon such Royal Patronage... We would be nothing without our Castles..! Wales is at the *forefront of monopolising on heritage*, with over 600 Castles, we should capitalise on that... and ensure that our *biodiversity, and natural heritage* is a hive of activity, yet sustainably managed and an exemplary magnet - for others to 'gravitate' towards...

I have been trying with my DSLR camera for many months diligently waiting for this shot or something near similar... and the one time that it ends up evolving and unfolding in front of my eyes... I didn't have my camera set up and only had my cameraphone... but it is a very very good camera! The usual beautiful swan subject matter... but at 'this time and moment' a brilliant 'shaft of light - low in angle' appeared through a gap in the trees illuminating this swan ~ backlit and creating ~ 'a glow from within'.

During the winter months... Ducks, Geese and Swans, preen their outer coat of feathers - particularly on their chest, using their beak to create an almost zippered up like meshwork of warm pockets of feathers - called down... The outer feathers being more structured create the exterior shell whilst the lighter aerated feathers (down) are zippered up... Just like a puffa jacket! It is this unique meshwork fabrication that allows members of the Anatidae family (Ducks, Geese and Swans) to survive through the winter in often very cold conditions.
