The Matterhorn is a mountain of the Alps, straddling the main watershed and border between Switzerland and Italy. It is a large, near-symmetric pyramidal peak in the extended Monte Rosa area of the Pennine Alps, whose summit is 4,478 metres high, making it one of the highest summits in the Alps and Europe.

Zermatt, in southern Switzerland’s Valais canton, is a mountain resort renowned for skiing, climbing and hiking. The town, at an elevation of around 1,600m, lies below the iconic, pyramid-shaped Matterhorn peak. Zermatt is famed as a mountaineering and ski resort of the Swiss Alps.

Aosta Valley in the Italian Alps which consists of many side valleys is a well known region in Europe for its elegant ski resorts. In winter it is teeming with skiers, but in summer the walkers who want to admire pristine nature will often come across skilifts and cable transport of all sorts which, of course, are not working and stand still as if frozen in time - and spoil the view.
