The majestic view from Grand High Tops in the Warrumbungle National Park, near Coonabarabran in north western New South Wales, Australia. It's a tough uphill walking track to this point but well worth the effort. Crater Bluff is in the foreground with Tonduron Spire in the background. Both structures are volcanic plugs formed after millions of years of erosion exposes the solidified vents of old volcanoes. Wedge tailed eagles are often seen hovering over this area. 2233 views as of Aug 25, 2015. This amazing volcanic rock looks spectacular close up with it's rugged patterns but I didn't manage to get a good shot at closer range .. if that's possible. Timor Rock is 730 m high & is a bluish trachyte mound. I opted for a longer range shot that takes in a more Aussie feel with the fence & the eucalyptus tree. The stunning view of the Breadknife from a spot just below Grand High Tops in the Warrumbungle National Park near Coonabarabran, NSW, Australia. It was quite an effort to get to this spot, but we all agreed that it was well worth it. Seeing this was a WOW moment even though I'd seen it before in sunnier conditions. The Warrumbungles is the remnants of a large, heavily eroded shield volcano that was active from 18 to 15 million years ago. A huge shield-shaped volcano formed as volcanic explosions occurred over millions of years. The remaining complex, rocky formations are what is left after millions of years of erosion. This is Belougery Spire photographed with Canon 400D on the Grand High Tops walking track. It's one of the fantastic volcanic plugs in the Warrumbungle National Park. These plugs are created when the softer rock forming the volcano weathers away over millions of years leaving the harder solidified lava remaining. The Warrumbungle National Park is near Coonabarabran in the north west of NSW, Australia & features a great range of Australian wildlife.
