Butter donuts are oil lamps. Oil is the main symbol of the Hanukkah holiday. In 165 BC, the Jewish rebels of the Maccabees recaptured the Temple of Jerusalem from the Greeks, the heirs of Alexander the Great. For eight days, an icon lamp from a jug, which miraculously survived consecrated oil, burned, while the high priest was preparing a special olive oil for the holy of holies - the temple menorah (lamp).

A photo of this Israeli courtyard, made by me, brings back memories of Italy for a long time. I have a whole collection of these courtyards waiting for the right mood for a sketch, but this one is more colorful. This is such a small Italy in Israel :)

Belvedere Castle is a folly in Central Park in Manhattan, New York City. It contains exhibit rooms and an observation deck, and since 1919, also houses the official Central Park weather station. I was very impressed and when I came back home from New York I decided to draw it.
