Fantail, a native bird of New Zealand, called Piwakawaka in Maori. I have drawn this using Koru designs based on unfurling fern fronds. This vector design is bold and simple. 2 shades of brown, and on some products, an earthy, light brown background.
Fantails, also know by the Maori name Piwakawaka, are wonderful birds, friendly, active and agile. The birds in this print are drawn incorporating Maori Koru patterns. The koru (Māori for “loop”) is a spiral shape based on the shape of a new unfurling silver fern frond and symbolizing new life, growth, strength and peace. The tones of brown and white are inspired by the true colours of the fantail.
The Fantail is a small bird found across Australasia, Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent. In New Zealand it is also know by it’s Maori name, Piwakawaka. This design features a stylised fantail, drawn in red, it has Koru designs on its body. The design in inspired by an airforce roundel.
