No, this is not a stuffed animal. This is a real live Polyphemus Moth! This moth is gigantic, and looks exactly like a plush toy. It’s one of my favorite moths, because I found one when I was little, sleeping on the side of a house, and made it become my friend for a day, taking it everywhere with me. I like to think the huge moth enjoyed our day together. The Polyphemus Moth has a couple cool features. Its body is basically a big round furball. And when it opens its wings, the pattern on them resembles the head of a Great Horned Owl, which it uses to startle away predators.
