This triptych tells the story of an octopus learning how to ski. If you've ever learned how to ski, then you know how he feels. His main challenge is obviously having to control six skis. We were jokingly saying that these paintings also tell the story of what happens when you've had one beer at the ski lodge, two beers, and then three beers. I was walking back to my cabin from McCarthy around midnight on Solstice Eve, and stopped at the view point along the road. I was about to board a boat to cross Kachemak Bay when I noticed the dramatic light hitting the Inua boat in the Homer boat harbor. The storm cloud was passing by, creating this surreal effect. Save the trees, save our planet, save us.

Arctic Valley Ski Area in Anchorage, Alaska hired me to create the new map of the mountain. This is the painting I created for the map. For the actual map I added lifts/runs in Photoshop to a photo of this painting before I painted the chairlifts. The original painting was auctioned off during the ski area's annual fundraising auction in 2021.
