There was no way I was going to sit and paint this outside the Sligachan on the Isle Of Skye. The air was thick with midges and I had just seconds to take a photo and run with flailing arms. Well actually it was three photos. This painting is based on all three, providing a view that you just can't get in reality. It shows the Red Cuillin mountains streaked orange by the setting sun, reflected in a pond, and showing the Sligachan river streaking across the frame. I've painted this in oil on board, measuring 30 inches by 20 inches. Dipping your face into the Sligachan River is said, in myth, to give you everlasting beauty. That may or may not be the case -- you'll have to ask the few people on my tour who were game enough to put their head in the ice cold waters -- but the river itself certainly has its own everlasting beauty!
