Sycamore Gap is an area located on Hadrians Wall in the Northumberland area of North east England. The tree and wall are iconic and often photographed. Made more famous as a set in the movie Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. Here the sky was a fantastic pearlescent colour, the addition of a filter makes for a fiery sky. Canon 1D 24-105 L lens

This is sad. I took this image on the 5th of September, 2023, while visiting the Northumberland National Park in the UK. The tree was iconic, it had even appeared in a movie. Three weeks after I took the image, someone maliciously cut it down in the dead of the night. The tree had sat next to the wall the Roman Emperor Hadrian built (Hadrian's Wall) to keep the Scots out, parts of which are visible in the image, in a natural dip in the landscape known as Sycamore Gap. I feel fortunate to have been able to visit this place before some deranged person felled this stunningly placed tree. In planning my trip, Sycamore Gap was very high on the list of things I wanted to see. I'm just glad I got there before the woodsman.
