This is an image of just a few of the many, ninety-one, stupas (chedis) within the Wat Pho temple complex. These stupas are incredibly ornate with porcelain pieces embedded around their surfaces in very intricate patterns, each of which is topped by a small spire. I understand that at their simplest, stupas are a simple earthen mound that is faced with stones, but these take the art form to a new level. They are stunning.

While visiting Southeast Asia, I was really taken with the incredibly ornate roofs on the more distinct and culturally important buildings. While the roofs were wonderfully patterned with contrasting shades of orange, red, green, and other colours, the gable ends almost always had these sculpted end pieces, all coated in gold. I was told that the characters depicted snakes, but to me they looked like single-horned antelopes, but who am I to know. In capturing this image, I really liked the backdrop of the wonderful cloud formation beyond; the roof looked so proud against that backdrop and yet had a sense of peace.

Iconic World Landmarks During A Thunderstorm; Wat Pho Bangkok

This image is of the incredible Reclining Buddha statue within the Wat Pho temple complex in Bangkok, Thailand. The statue is truly enormous at 46 metres (151 feet) in length, 15 metres (49 feet) tall, and is completely covered in gold leaf. It is a remarkable testament to faith. When capturing the image, I was really taken with the wonderful warm tones of not only the statue but also the highly intricate interior decoration of the building in which it is housed. It is a spectacle.
