This is a sketch of Tammy Wurtherington, the Little Doll Girl The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Duy Truong. I wanted to look like a commander and Zandy and I designed a soldier's outfit with broad shoulders and a ruffled blouse. It looked much like the others; however I saw that it fit perfectly and gave me a confident air of authority. Zandy made up a sketch of me with my hair blowing in the breeze that was quite remarkable. She could see that I admired it and gave it to me. She gave me another sketch she did of Baragh, Chumchuga, and an associate poised to do battle. "They look fiercely handsome," I said.

In the opening preface, Robert Landsbury discovers the diary in a shed on a newly purchased estate in River Falls, Ohio and passes it along to his associates. The diary is faithfully preserved for today's reader. In it, the reader will discover that a ten-year-old mute girl, Tammy Wurtherington residing in the Wixby estate is the author. She loves to make dolls in a shed out in back of the house. She lives with Lord Wixby and Aunt May in a lavish estate at the edge of town. Aunt May teaches her to use a sewing machine and gives her a small one suited to size as a birthday gift. One day while constructing a toy soldier for her brother, Alfred the Mouse appears and is impressed with her ability to make doll outfits and reluctantly invite...

We stepped through the door and saw that we were floating in the sky with a gigantic submarine hovering over our heads. I imagined that something terrifying dwelt inside it and would come after us. Zeke and Cedric flew up to the deck while Alfred and I stood on the dock. Zeke stomped around on the deck as though he were an admiral. He said, "Yoo-hoo, is anyone home?" He began knocking on the hull. "Yoo-hoo!"

Art by Duy Truong Tammy shows General Washington her five pointed star. "It is nothing at all," she said. "Any child can make a perfect star and not give it a second thought." "We have a young lady here with us," said George Washington. "Tammy, is it as simple as that?" I grabbed a scissors and I seized a piece of paper lying on the table and began snipping." It is nothing at all." I handed him a perfect five pointed star. Betsy handed him one that she had cut. The officers with Washington held back their grins as best they could. One said, "General Washington, you have been out maneuvered by all this. I would bet that even the mouse agrees."

It was difficult to tell as it could best be described as musical mayhem; although they did it in perfect two-part harmony. We listened to several tunes and each one was funnier than the last. "Bravo, bravo!" Mr. Scott offered an applause for the effort that had him belly laughing.

"Thank you, Thomas Jefferson and good persons who have gathered to sign this historic document. I can stand here as a humble ten-year-old child and tell you that this may very well be the most important moment in the birth of a new nation. Of course I am honored to be here with you and will speak for the future generations that will benefit from your courage in affixing your signatures to the Declaration of Independence. July 14, 1774 Dear Diary, Lucinda gave me a jeweled necklace that gave us the power to travel back in time and sent all of us to London to correct the space-time continuum as best we could. She said that she could watch over us with her crystal and we could talk to each other as long as I wore the necklace. Alfred could time travel, but only as a mouse. He said he found it humiliating to be reduced to such small stature. He grumbled about it from time to time. Cedric and Zeke were delighted that they could be at my side while we tweaked with history.

The Wurtherington Diary: Tammy and the Declaration of Independence Art by Duy Truong "Hear, Hear!" With that we all pushed through the door and climbed the staircase that led to the Liberty Bell. Everyone wondered who should ring it. Many wanted me to ring it and I agreed only if John Hancock would do it with me. We all agreed that John Hancock represented the entire body and it should be him. We shared the rope and rang the bell. It was crisp and clear. "Let freedom ring!" they shouted. The bell, as we had anticipated, gained a crack in its side and to this day it stands as a symbol of freedom for all to see.

We pitched over the side of a mile high waterfall and back into the water. We all cried, "Help!" and figured we were about to drown. Water was pouring in from the walls and we were sinking at an alarming rate. I peered out the window and a hungry whale was headed straight for us, apparently happy to find some unexpected tidbits to chew on. Zeke and Cedric took one look out the window and shivered in terror. "We are about to be lunch!" they shouted as the whale took a leap into the air and lurched upon us!

In this scene, the reader can see that Polly, the loveable vulture, has joined the group. Tammy and the California Gold Rush: Art by Duy Truong. We decided to do a test run and soon we were all flying around Kira. We found ourselves over Sakuna, the home of the Kakuna elves. I could see they were happy to see us flying overhead and decided to land in the center of the village. Chief Wanakuka and his wife, Lanacua ran down the balcony to greet us. They were amazed to see all of us flying upon Polly. She was a hit among the Kakuna and a large crowd gathered to admire her. Polly, of course, loved every minute of it. Lanacua said, "You must stay and have a luncheon with us." Zeke and Cedric were hungry ( they loved to eat all the time) and we agreed to stay. Picnic tables were set in the middle of the square and we found oursel...

We raced across the desert landscape that soon turned to emerald green as we passed over an oasis lush with bubbling springs and leafy palms. Tall minarets sprouted like grass over a splendid city that sprawled endlessly toward the horizon. We quickly found the palace that stood majestically near the center. Mina pointed the way to a balcony high up near the peak. We landed on a cool stone-floored foyer with bubbling fountains, metal tables, and scarlet parasols.

Tammy Meets Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. A wave of water swept over us. Seconds later we found ourselves settled in the palace garden in Capira where apple blossom drifted lazily in a cool autumn breeze.

It closed behind us as if by magic and then we could feel the structure descending deep within the Earth. We stopped moving downward and then the door opened up to reveal a long corridor that led us even further beneath the surface. The narrow tunnel opened up to reveal an underground city of immense proportions. There was a vast labyrinth of tunnels and pathways with elves scurrying all about. Dear Diary, A three day holiday was declared by the king and queen. The next morning, Mansa Musa entered the city with his entourage. Ali Baba provided his prized steeds to lead the event. It was a magnificent spectacle worthy of a great king. The parade of North Africans stretched for miles and flowers were thrown to him from the balconies as they passed by. He tossed gold coins to the cheering crowds who would never forget the day that became a legend for the next millennium. Behind him followed the elves mounted on the enormous scorpions. While Mansa Musa would return to Timbuktu, the elves would make a home here and live quite happily ever after. Ali Baba and his men were last to enter the city. No longer would they be called thi...

He gave it a moment's thought and said, “Tammy, you will ride with me.” I put Alfred on my shoulder and hopped up on the horse and held on to Paul Revere. “Hold on tight, little one. This is going to be some ride!”
