This work is infused with a powerful sense of heat, light and realism. It depicts a pub at the end of its functionality, basking in the sun, with what lies inside now a mystery, its future uncertain. The pub was in fact the location of the video "Red, Red Wine," by UB40 and is in Birmingham's Digbeth district. I have used my own photography to inform and inspire this work, which is executed in acrylic on a canvas frame.

At once a beautiful old house, and an icon of freedom perhaps, the Wilberforce house is tucked away in a walled English garden in Hull’s old town. I have known this building all my life, from infancy, when I shuddered at the sight of the chains and shackles used on slaves, and peeked with horror and fascination at the thick mud beyond the garden fence, that threatened to eat me alive, on the river Hull. The house is Georgian, its walls partly covered in foliage, its windows mysterious. The work is a lovely souvenir of Hull, a great gift and a wonderful addition to any collection.

A man surfs the internet as the greyhound sleeps soundly on the rug, content and protective. A row of books. A taste of cosy domesticity. This work is unusual and striking, and ideal for any dog lover, with detail and a wide range of colour.

A ladder, seemingly to nowhere. I was reminded of Jacob’s dream whereby a ladder appears, a reminder of heaven above, and of the promise that exile will end. The tree, gnarled and ancient, also put me in mind of biblical gardens, of olives and jasmine, of hot desert winds, of red rocks that echo the howl of the jackal. The courtyard envelops us in shade, above a glorious sky of blue, and below the terracotta colours of the sandy walls. The tree is rich in olive and yellow hues, the wood almost pink.

I love these old subway cars, their colours, a turquoise hued metal, and red brown floors, little portholes to the outside, to the darkness of the labyrinth beneath the city, the domain of nightly ghosts and demons and perhaps the odd urban legendary crocodile or two. The car is empty, adding to its mystery, the end of the day perhaps, or the very beginning. The work is interesting and unusual, evocative of a different time and place. A perfect gift, a great addition to any collection of American works.

This riot of colour caught my eye and I decided I had to paint it, though even paint cannot do justice to the intense heat and glorious smell. The bush and flowers partially hide an Edinburgh terraced house, unaccustomed perhaps to the very warm weather. There is silence, but for the humming of bees.

A hidden corner that hugs the Water of Leith, on my way to the Botanical Gardens. A day of glorious Scottish sunshine, of a clear blue sky and gentle warmth. The stone radiates gold, brilliant white from the woodwork, with dots of yellow from sunflowers. It is quiet here, with Stockbridge a short walk away. The work is rich in realism and detail, filled with vivid colour; A wonderful souvenir of Edinburgh and a perfect gift.

A favorite walk, a place of constant return, unchanging, the gentle assurance of history and memory. Here I find a wonderful café with cream cakes and silver tea pots and faded, retro beauty, A portal to another decade, to another time. I am transfixed by the blue and the pink stucco, and by the vivid colors of the shop fronts. This is my secret corner of London that forever belongs to me. The painting is a wonderful gift of London and a perfect addition to any collection.

In a Northern English town, where redbrick is replaced by stone, and where the road rises sharply, I spotted this lovely pink door. I wanted to capture its pastel, its oldness. It is early on Sunday morning, and London has yet to wake up. I have Soho to myself. I love the green tiles of the shop front, the way the shadow draws me to the alleyway, mysterious and deserted. Windows draw me upwards, and I imagine what lies inside. It is Sunday morning in London and the day beckons with its promise of brunch, of designer coffees, of walks and friendship. The work is rich in detail, rich in colour too, with elements of realism that make it a great addition to any collection of London art.

A Mysterious Green Door In France

A welcome break from the airlessness of the office, time to sit in the late afternoon sun. It is the home stretch, just an hour or so to go. He is unaware of his surroundings, engrossed in what he is doing. This colourful portrait makes a lovely gift, and a great addition to any collection of portrait.

A perfect Hull Saturday, when the heat of the day picks up, and the dew clears on the weeds on the embankment. Through the bridge, almost iconic to those who know the city’s little Bohemia, is a world of second-hand shops, cafés for Hipsters, and vibrant pubs. Scrambled eggs on toast and coffee with hints of chocolate, scones and butter with fresh plum jam. Here is a world of Victorian Avenues, their glory softly faded, and red brick terraces in perfect symmetry. All this beckons, under the bridge. The work is unusual, full of colour and light, and makes a perfect souvenir of Hull, a great gift.
