Holy Trinity Church, the parish church of Cookham in the north-east corner of Berkshire, England on the banks of the River Thames. Here it is viewed across the churchyard on a February afternoon with snowdrops scattered between the tombstones, The church dates from the C12th with additions added during the C13th. Sir Stanley Spencer, the renowned artist (1891-1959) who lived in the village, set many of his paintings in the locality, this churchyard being the setting of 'The Resurrection' (1924-7). Looking over the churchyard to St Mary's, the parish church at Kintbury, West Berkshire. This lovely C12th Norman church stands in the centre of the village, and is not far from the Kennet and Avon Canal. Carry on walking down the hill here and you cross Vicarage Bridge over the waterway to join the towpath leading to the lock. Kintbury's nearest town is Newbury, the administrative centre for West Berkshire.

The parish church of St Mary the Virgin in the village of Aldworth in West Berkshire. Overlooking the Berkshire Downs, this picturesque C14th church contains large effigies of the De la Beche family - the men in full armour and the women in the dress of the period. These are commonly known as 'the Aldworth Giants' due to their size. In the churchyard is an ancient yew tree which is estimated to be over 1000 years old!

Gargoyles were commonly used in medieval times. Their two main purposes were to scare off evil, and to divert rainwater. Many had open mouths and long necks because they functioned as downspouts to divert rainwater from building foundations.

This beautiful fairy tale town of soaring towers is the perfect gift for people who love fantasy and science fiction.

However, many of the original building materials were used such as stone and the flint used for facing. At this time the nave roof was heightened and the clerestory windows added to give more light. Dunstanburgh Castle on the Northumbrian coast of North East England was constructed between 1313 and 1322 and today's ruins stand over the vast expanse of Embleton Bay overlooking the North Sea. The image has been given an artistic filter and starburst for something just that little bit different, but there is also the original photograph without the filters available on site.

Perhaps one the most iconic sights in Venice - the doorways of the canal-side mansions - the 'porta d'acqua'. These are usually constructed of limestone and like this one have a carved head on the keystone This one looks very Neptune-like! Also iconic are the mooring poles flanking the doorway - the 'pali da casade' or 'poles of the family' which are often painted in the family's colours.

The Norman tower of Winchester Cathedral which sits squarely at the crossing point of this beautiful old building. It was typically Norman (and Saxon) to build their great churches in this cruciform plan with a central tower. Here we can see the round-arched Norman windows in the belfry and the transept. The nave windows are of later perpendicular design. The cathedral as we see it dates from 1079 - 1532 and replaced two previous Saxon Minster churches.

Masons Court is a stunning example of a medieval hall, located right in the centre of Stratford Upon Avon. Built in 1481, the house is recognised as the oldest house in Stratford Upon Avon and many original features remain.

Cardiff Castle is a medieval castle situated in the city centre. The original motte and bailey castle was built in the late 11th century on the site of a Roman Fort. This image was of the central keep was captured at dusk on a summer evening.
