This is a side view of the Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris. It is one of the most notable and most recognizable structures in Paris. Notre-Dame de Paris (meaning "Our Lady of Paris", also known as Notre-Dame Cathedral or simply Notre-Dame) is a medieval Catholic cathedral on the Isle de la Cite in the fourth arrondissement of Paris. Produced in the style of a chalk drawing, cows and their calves quietly grazing on the green grass of the water meadows outside the walls of St Cross Hospital. This lovely old building stands near Winchester, Hampshire - its almshouses providing accommodation fror 25 elderly men. Rising above is the magnificent Norman tower of the church, echoing that of Winchester Cathedral just a short distance away.

The old abbey buildings at Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England. This view is of the Checker with its distinctive chimney. This building dates from about the 1260s and is the oldest surviving part of the abbey buildings. The abbey was first founded in the C7th but in the C9th was destroyed by the Danes. His son, Sir William Herbert, a Knight of the Garter, continued building, creating a home rather than a fortress - though it looks formidable! This was also the boyhood home of Henry Tudor, later Henry VII. During the Civil War the castle was taken by Parliamentary troops and began to fall into disrepair. Nikon D7100 Nikkor 18-200

His son, Sir William Herbert, a Knight of the Garter, continued building, creating a home rather than a fortress - though it looks formidable! Young Henry Tudor - later Henry VII was sent here to be brought up as a nobleman. During the Civil War the castle was taken by Parliamentary troops and began to fall into disrepair. The Abbey Church of St Peter and St Paul in the village of Dorchester-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. It is also the village's parish church. This beautiful old church has a long history, originally dating back to AD635. However, the Abbey itself was founded in 1140, built by an Order of Augustinian Canons. Its medieval heritage is seen inside - particularly by an effigy of a knight. A Jesse window's stone tracery depicts the stem of Jesse and is a feature of the building.

The Norman keep of Richmond's castle towering abouve the rooftops of the neighbouring buildings. The castle is in the centre of the town of Richmond in North Yorkshire and dominates its surroundings. Constructed by Alan Rufus, a Norman, in 1071, the castle was intended as a defence against insurrection in the North. This 100 foot high keep was added in the C12th by Duke Conan of Brittany. The castle was apparently derelict by 1540 but was repaired in the 1800s due to the rise in tourism. Nikon D7100 Nikkor 18-200

The walls of Richmond Castle in North Yorkshire as they rise above the River Swale. Building began in 1071 by the Norman Alan Rufus as a defence against uprisings in the North which had already incurred King William's wrath and retribution. Further improvements such as the 100ft high keep were puit in place by Duke Conan of Brittany - Rufus' great-nephew in the C12th. By the mid 1500s it had fallen out of use but with the rise of tourism was repaired in the 1800s and is a Grade1 listed building Nikon D7100 Nikkor 18-200

This fortification dates from the C16th and was designed both as a fortress and a ceremonial gateway to Lisbon and was commissioned by King Philip1 of Portugal in 1589.During its time it has not only served as a fortress but also as a prison and a custom house. Since 1983 it has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
