This is a sketch of Tammy Wurtherington, the Little Doll Girl The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Duy Truong. I wanted to look like a commander and Zandy and I designed a soldier's outfit with broad shoulders and a ruffled blouse. It looked much like the others; however I saw that it fit perfectly and gave me a confident air of authority. Zandy made up a sketch of me with my hair blowing in the breeze that was quite remarkable. She could see that I admired it and gave it to me. She gave me another sketch she did of Baragh, Chumchuga, and an associate poised to do battle. "They look fiercely handsome," I said.

The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Jessie Ty and Duy Truong September 2, 1883 Dear Diary, I began to have doubts about all of this. Many were going to die and the burden of it all collapsed upon me that evening. I offered a prayer to God at the side of my bed. "...This is too much for a little girl from Ohio to bear. I ask for strength from you to help me get through tomorrow. I really do believe I have done the right thing and I can only hope that I will feel this way after the battle. Amen." I wanted to look like a commander and Zandy and I designed a soldier's outfit with broad shoulders and a ruffled blouse. It looked much like the others; however I saw that it fit perfectly and gave me a confident air ...

The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Nour Hassan and Duy Truong. He took my hand and shook it. "It's called the Tammy handshake." I returned the shake and gave him a warm embrace. The war machines were an important part of the plan. The Hoarggs worked side-by-side with the villagers that flew in and out of the forest daily. After the first few days a tent city was erected as many of the workers felt they could better spend their time working rather than going back and forth each day. The tents began as a scattering the first day or so and now there are thousands of tents hidden in the forest. Wives flew in to feed the hoards of workers and campfires filled the night sky every evening. In that few had ever handled a...

Art by Nour Hassan and Duy Truong....... This is our first picture ( of over 400 ) that appears in the Wurtherington Diary..... As with many illustrated classic stories, it is a story with unique characters and deals with hope, determination, compassion, and much more. In the opening preface, Robert Landsbury discovers the diary in a shed on a newly purchased estate in River Fall, Ohio and passes it along to his associates. The diary is faithfully preserved for today's reader. In it, the reader will discover that a ten-year-old mute girl, Tammy Wurtherington residing in the Wixby estate is the author. She loves to make dolls in a shed out in back of the house. She lives with Lord Wixby and Aunt May in a lavish estate at the edge o...

The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Nour Hassan and Duy Truong Something came running across the prairie like a lightning bolt, straight for us. Alfred grabbed my hand. "Oh, oh. I don't like the looks of this." Zeke grabbed my leg. They were scared y-cats of the first order. I had to set down the sewing basket. The bolt of lightning came to a screeching halt directly in front of us. "Greetings mates. May I be of service to you today?" Alfred held my hand very tight and said, "What and who are you?" I could see he was another flying mammal a bit like Zeke however he was about a half foot taller. He hovered for a second or two and then settled on the roadway. "Snazzy outfits!" He peered at Zeke and Alfred. I...

Catherine and Lucinda cackled, “I cast my final spell; and bring forth the korgoyle, from the pits of hell.” This was the moment of the prophesy. I signaled Cedric and a few of his comrades to do the prearranged task. They flew out onto the field with kerosene lamps and dropped them between me and the korgoyle that was sure to arrive. I wanted the korgoyle to focus on me and the lights would do it. It was much like an arrow pointing the way to the dinner—and I was it. The ground shook as though an earthquake has struck and the earth opened up. A winged korgoyle crawled out and looked for the order. “Kill the girl!” they ordered and pointed to me standing there with my sword raised for battle. How could a little girl from Ohio kill a ...

Art by Duy Truong This scene is from the Wurtherington Diary: The Declaration of Independence. As far as I could tell the tune was a waltz. It was difficult to tell as it could best be described as musical mayhem; although they did it in perfect two-part harmony. We listened to several tunes and each one was funnier than the last. "Bravo, bravo!" Mr. Scott offered an applause for the effort that had him belly laughing.

Art by Nour Hassan and Duy Truong This is a scene from the "Wurtherington Diary." The creature said, "I am an opossum, sir and I am known as Zeke, far and wide." I offered my hand and he licked it. "No, I wish to make you my friend and if you shake my hand we will be friends." I showed him how to do it properly. I told myself that I must remember that Zeke was a mammal and not a human and would not have any understanding of human nature. It was not that easy to do, as up until yesterday, anyone who talked to me was a human. Now I find myself talking to a mouse, an octopus, and now an opossum. I reminded myself that Kira was a strange land and it was my duty to learn the customs if I was going to be of any help at all.

This is our first drawing that appears in the Little Doll Girl sketchbook edition. The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Nour Hassan Duy Truong One afternoon, I had them lined up on the work bench and was going down the line dressing each one in their new uniforms. I had little soldier hats and tiny wooden swords for each. I picked up one and it squeaked! "Squeak!" To my surprise it was a mouse! He had been standing there in line with my soldiers. I brushed back the curtain and I could fully see what I had come upon. I poked his belly with my finger. "Hey! Cut that out!" "You can talk?" I whispered. I had never heard of a talking mouse. "Of course I can—doesn't everyone talk?" "I can only whisper." "Aren...

The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Duy Truong. I peeked from under my leaf and saw that is was a little girl. She was picking flowers. She hummed as she picked," La la la la, la la. I pick flowers for my mama." I could see she was as ugly as the rest, covered with hair like that. There was something human about her though, while she sang and gathered flowers. The others must have had a sudden change of heart. "Ahh!" They all sighed. "She's ugly and cute at the same time. One of us should go out there." "You are kidding?" "You go." "Not me." "I'm not going." "This was Tammy's idea" They all looked at me. YesI was the one who got us into this mess.

Art by Duy Truong and Nour Hassan This scene appears in the Wutherington Diary, The Little Doll Girl. Catherine continued, And where is this Tammy that has everyone talking? I'd like to see her now. I stood up. I am here. I brushed back my hair which was now tangled and in disarray. Lucinda cackled, "You look like nothing to me. Let us see you cast a spell." I said, "I am no more than a little girl from Ohio who has lost her way." "You lie!" Lucinda raised her hands and cast a spell that tossed me across the pavilion like a rag-doll and knocked the breath from me when I slammed against a wall. Catherine raised her hand and I was picked up and carried by invisible hands toward her. She made motions with her finger and I was ...

Art by Jesse Ty and Duy Truong: I showed Baragh the sketch that Zandy had drawn and offered to sew it if he wished. He loved the idea and within the hour I had him dressed in a handsome leather outfit with a large black belt. He stood before a mirror and admired himself while he held a bow and arrow. Alfred, Cedric, and Zeke hovered around him offering compliments. All of the Hoarggs will soon want to look like this!

Art by Duy Truong, Reynold Jay says, "My bedroom scenes are important to me and my readers. At the end of each day it is important that we feels warm and cozy. It is a time for reflection of the day's events shared with one's best friends." The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Duy Truong September 4, 1883 Dear Diary, Alfred and Betty dropped by and wanted to spend the night too. Of course they were needed back in Kira the next day. Someone needed to rule the kingdom. I have decided that there is no point in showing anyone my diary as no one would ever believe any of it. I've been told that a diary is personal, so I guess I'll keep it that way. I do have that map pinned to the wall given to me by Captain Fly...

He hovered for a second or two and then settled on the roadway. “Snazzy outfits!” He peered at Zeke and Alfred. In the blink of an eye he seemed to disappear and was behind us admiring the cloth from behind. “Hmm—nice-very very nice.” By the time we turned around he was front and center. I stomped my foot. “Hey—you must slow down! I pointed to the cobblestone. “Sit!” He sat down although his wings fluttered a bit. His tongue hung out like any pooch. I was tempted to get a rubber ball, but I did not have one in the sewing basket. “Stop it with the wings...

Art by Duy Truong Tammy shows General Washington her five pointed star. "It is nothing at all," she said. "Any child can make a perfect star and not give it a second thought." "We have a young lady here with us," said George Washington. "Tammy, is it as simple as that?" I grabbed a scissors and I seized a piece of paper lying on the table and began snipping." It is nothing at all." I handed him a perfect five pointed star. Betsy handed him one that she had cut. The officers with Washington held back their grins as best they could. One said, "General Washington, you have been out maneuvered by all this. I would bet that even the mouse agrees."

The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Nour Hassan and Duy Truong. An unearthly howl filled the air and echoed across the plain. “Hoooowwwwgggaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!” Two dozen towering wooden soldiers moved from the forest and the royal soldiers saw them for the first time. Each beat upon a deafening drum that thundered into the mountaintops. “Hoooowwwwgggaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!” sounded again and again.

The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Nour Hassan and Duy Truong. The guards grabbed Alfred and me and escorted us to the dungeon. Alfred protested as we both were rushed off by the guards. “Take your hands off me! This is a big misunderstanding. I lost my way and I'm not with her!” A few minutes later we were both chained to a wall in the dungeon. Alfred was distressed. “I have become accustomed to my head. I'm really going to miss having it. That isn't so bad; however knowing that it will sit up there with those other heads—all of us staring at one another with nothing better to do....” I listened for nearly an hour to of the sad state of affairs from poor Alfred. I heard a whisper. “Psst....”It was Zeke. “W...

The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Duy Truong. Zeke liked the idea. "I'm hungry," he said. "Maybe we can beg for some scraps to eat." Cedric sniffed the air. "I smell something good cooking back there." We knocked on the back door and an older woman answered. I had told my associates to look a bit forlorn and hungry. "Pardon me, mum." I said. "My pets are hungry and I have no food." She looked at the forlorn mammals that had their tongues hanging out. Zeke went a little too far and acted like he was passing out and fell to the ground gasping for water. "Water! Water! I must have water...." Cedric did well. He fanned Zeke with his feathered hat while he cradled his friend in his arms. He looked up to the lady wi...

"What is this magic contraption you show us?" wondered Captain Flynn. “Perhaps it is a compact with the devil of the deep blue sea." "No, no, Captain," Alfred assured the crew, "Tammy is a good sorceress and soon she will not only repair your sails...." "Yes?" "She will capture your heart before the Sun sets in the West."

Art by Duy Truong Tammy addresses the members of the second Continental Congress. I stood beside him in the center of the hall. "Thank you, Thomas Jefferson and good persons who have gathered to sign this historic document. I can stand here as a humble ten-year-old child and tell you that this may very well be the most important moment in the birth of a new nation. Of course I am honored to be here with you and will speak for the future generations that will benefit from your courage in affixing your signatures to the Declaration of Independence. I understand that you do all of this with regret only because of the injustices that have been thrust upon you. In that the injustices that continue to flow across the Atlantic seem to becom...

The Wurtherington Diary: Tammy and the Declaration of Independence Art by Duy Truong and Nour Hassan Paul Revere was surprised that my associates were so talkative but he got over it as the situation was desperate and the fate of the entire revolution was at stake. He gave it a moment's thought and said, “Tammy, you will ride with me.” I put Alfred on my shoulder and hopped up on the horse and held on to Paul Revere. “Hold on tight, little one. This is going to be some ride!”

July 14, 1774 Dear Diary, Lucinda gave me a jeweled necklace that gave us the power to travel back in time and sent all of us to London to correct the space-time continuum as best we could. She said that she could watch over us with her crystal and we could talk to each other as long as I wore the necklace. Alfred could time travel, but only as a mouse. He said he found it humiliating to be reduced to such small stature. He grumbled about it from time to time. Cedric and Zeke were delighted that they could be at my side while we tweaked with history.

The Wurtherington Diary: Tammy and the Declaration of Independence Art by Duy Truong "Hear, Hear!" With that we all pushed through the door and climbed the staircase that led to the Liberty Bell. Everyone wondered who should ring it. Many wanted me to ring it and I agreed only if John Hancock would do it with me. We all agreed that John Hancock represented the entire body and it should be him. We shared the rope and rang the bell. It was crisp and clear. "Let freedom ring!" they shouted. The bell, as we had anticipated, gained a crack in its side and to this day it stands as a symbol of freedom for all to see.

The Wurtherington Diary: Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves: Art by Tenda Spencer We were hurled to the bottom of the ocean and then high up into the air. We pitched over the side of a mile high waterfall and back into the water. We all cried, "Help!" and figured we were about to drown. Water was pouring in from the walls and we were sinking at an alarming rate. I peered out the window and a hungry whale was headed straight for us, apparently happy to find some unexpected tidbits to chew on. Zeke and Cedric took one look out the window and shivered in terror. "We are about to be lunch!" they shouted as the whale took a leap into the air and lurched upon us!

The Wurtherington Diary: Tammy meets Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves: Art by Tenda Spencer. Cedric said, "It's a thingamajig, mate!" Zeke said, "Oh yeah, smarty-pants—what does it do?" I wanted to know. I said, "Dear, Cedric—do tell us." I figured he had no idea what it was (how could he?) and was about to make up something. "It makes pancakes, mate. That spiral thing up there turns around and these wheels here run over the skillet and squashes the dough. The head chef sits up there looking through the window and them he warms up the oven. Then they squash it." He pulled out a toothpick. He crossed his arms and picked his teeth as though he were an expert on the thingamajig. I said, "It has wings like a bird. Maybe it can fly to...
