CHiPs is an American crime drama television series created by Rick Rosner, that originally aired on NBC from September 15, 1977 to May 1, 1983. It followed the lives of two motorcycle officers of the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The series ran for 139 episodes over six seasons, plus one reunion TV movie in October 1998.

The San Jose Mile was an infamous annual flat track motorcycle race held at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds in San Jose, California from 1955 until the last lap in 1994. It was well-known as one of the wildest go-fo-broke races on the west coast and attracted the best racers from across America. This design celebrates the race's legacy at the 1975 20-year anniversary mark with checkered flags and a race-prepped Harley tearing up the dirt track's surface.

The legacy of the Sacramento Mile goes all the way back to 1959 when Grand National champion Carroll Resweber captured the first main at the California State Fairgrounds. Since that historic event, every top flat track motorcycle racer in the world has competed at the California Capitol City's legendary dirt oval, doing battle at speeds topping 140 miles per hour.

CHiPs was a crime drama television series that ran from September 15, 1977, to May 1, 1983. It follows the lives of two motorcycle officers of the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The series ran for 139 episodes over six seasons, plus one reunion television film in October 1998. Episodes utilized a standard hour-long time slot, which at the time required 48 minutes of actual programming. Over-the-top freeway pileups and vehicular stunts including jumping from moving motorcycles to runaway cars were signatures of the show. As real-life CHP motor officers rarely ride in pairs, in early episodes this was explained away by placing the trouble-prone Ponch on probationary status, with Jon assigned as his field training officer.

The Catalina Grand Prix was one of the biggest races In the country at the time. It was a 100-mile event held on Santa Catalina Island of the coast of Los Angeles. The 10-mile course was a mixture of road, dirt fire trails, singletrack, and even went through a golf course. Cycle Magazine noted that many of the big AMA national riders skipped Catalina so as not to suffer embarrassment at the hands of Southern California scramble riders who were known to dominate the event.

If you grew up riding motorcycles in Southern California in the 1970s and ’80s, you probably remember Indian Dunes. “The Dunes,” as it was known to regulars, was a motorcycle off-road playground located in Valencia, that opened up in 1970 out on Highway 126 in what at the time seemed like the boonies. The 600-acre park had a larger purpose which was to play host to Hollywood studios as a versatile backdrop for all kinds of film and television projects, including what would be the Dukes of Hazzard's most death-defying jump of all time. Of course, most folks remember it as the place to head out with your buddies to ride dirt bikes and dune buggies, or even to take in organized motocross racing events.

Founded in 1969, California Cycle Works was a manufacturer of custom motorcycle parts and a premier builder of NorCal style choppers and wild customs. Based in Sacramento, California, CCW was on the front end of the chopper craze, and produced a full catalog of custom parts ranging from custom frames to raked chopper forks and continued doing their thing well into the mid '80s.

Already an accomplished artist, Jeff McCann began customizing motorcycles in the mid-60s and soon found himself with a steady side-gig painting and customizing friend’s bikes. Realizing the potential to build custom choppers for a living, Jeff partnered with his friend Chris, settled on the name CJ Custom Cycle Parts, and opened their new business venture together in 1970. With a mix of their own house designed parts and inventory goodies, CJ had everything an early 70's biker could want to customize their bike and for those wanting to go all the way, the shop also offered complete custom-builds, either using a customer provided donor bike or as a built to order turn-key chopper based on brand-new motorcycles right off the showroom floor.

On June 22, 1975, the world's top motocross riders converged on Carlsbad, California for the 500cc United States Grand Prix. This was the 6th round of the Motocross World Championships and a rematch of the previous season where, once again, the two top competitors in the chase for the cup.
