The Boat Race is an annual rowing race between the Cambridge University Boat Club and the Oxford University Boat Club, rowed between men's and women's open-weight eights on the River Thames in London, England. It is also known as the University Boat Race and the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race.

A fine Edwardian house sitting on the banks of the River Thames at Caversham, Reading. Here it is seen from the Thameside Promenade, part of the Thames Path National Trail. Here the thames is often busy with leisure boating traffic - launches, rowing boats and canoes. This house and others like it along the riverbanks of course have their own boathouses - perhaps as part of the building as here!

The Shard, also referred to as the Shard of Glass, Shard London Bridge and formerly London Bridge Tower, is a 95-storey supertall skyscraper, designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano, in Southwark, London, that forms part of the Shard Quarter development.

The London Eye began as an entry to a competition in 1993 organised by the Sunday Times. David Marks and Julia Barfield, the renowned husband-and-wife architecture team, submitted their idea for a giant cantilevered observation wheel as a new London landmark to celebrate the millennium. The wheel would stand on the south bank of the River Thames, towering over London’s skyline, and attraction where, as Julia put it, “the trip round is as important as the view”. Nothing came of the competition, and no winner was announced. But David and Julia weren’t deterred. Tireless work was done over six years, the couple worked tirelessly to make their dream a reality. They spent time and money investing in the very best technology available...

I have seen the clear picture of Ferris wheel across the river or pictures of the sunset. I thought of taking a picture of London Eye thru' the trees. I hope you like my view point.

A narrowboat moored next to a restaurant, once a watermill, on the banks of the Thames at Maidenhead in Berkshire. Just behind us the river passes through Boulters Lock, the subject of paintings especially in Victorian and Edwardian times. This is Ray Mill Island and in the background a new footbridge leads over the river to Taplow. A lovely place to stop for refreshment on your journey along this beautiful river.

A view of London's Shard skyscraper from across the Thames. It stands out from the overcast sky, with its glass mirrored sides reflecting the clouds. There are a couple of orange construction cranes at the base of the building. In front of The Shard, lining the River Thames are some older more traditional buildings including The London Bridge Hospital.
