Originally a small Saxon chapel, it was enlarged in the 12th century with stones from a nearby church which had fallen into disrepair.

London Tower Bridge And The Shard The impressive London Bridge And The Shard in the capital of England, framed by one of the huge towers, makes a stunning statement photograph that looks better the bigger you go. On his retirement from the Bank of England in 1908, Kenneth Grahame returned to Blewbury in Berkshire, the county in which he had grown up. In October that year he published The Wind in the Willows, a novel for children featuring an array of anthropomorphic characters, including Rat (a water vole), Mole, Toad, and Badger. Toad lives in a house on the edge of the River Bank, Toad Hall. Grahame's description of Toad Hall is sparse: "a handsome, dignified old house of mellowed red brick, with well-kept lawns reaching down to the water's edge".

Goring Lock on the River Thames on a sunny October day. There has been a lock here since the 1500s when it was a flash lock, In the 1700s it was redesigned as a pound lock and was constructed of timber, The present lock dates from the 1920s. Goring-on-Thames is a picturesque village in Oxfordshire and is a haunt of artists (and photographers!). Here the river narrows to pass between the North Wessex Downs and the Chiltern Hills at the point known as the Goring Gap.
