Beautiful as Aphrodite, wise as Athena, swifter than Hermes, and stronger than Hercules, Princess Diana of Themyscira was an Amazon Warrior fighting for peace in Man's World. According to Greek Mythology, the Amazons were a tribe of entirely female warriors. It was believed that the Amazons lived in Themiscyra near the Black Sea. The Amazons were famous for being all women and for hating men. No men were allowed to live alongside the Amazons. They were an entirely female tribe. So much that they would only keep the daughters that they gave birth to. The Amazons mostly fought using spears, and bows and arrows. A helmeted Amazon was known to carry into battle her sword and a shield bearing the Trojan.

'Jamieson River' - Pastel The Jamieson area of Northern Victoria is a really spectacular area of Australia as far as scenery is concerned. I love to visit this location with my pastels.

'Filtered Light' - Pastel 55cm x 35cm approx. Another of my Ironbark country paintings inspired by the area where I live. This was donated as a raffle painting.

Pastel 55cm x 35cm approx. This is the Sugarloaf Creek, not far from my home, on a sparkly evening when the colours are intense.

Pastel on Mi-Teinte 'Tex Paper (burgundy) 55cm x 45cm approx. This painting depicts two fire fighters at Trawool, Victoria. The rainbow was caused by a small leak in the hose, and hence the title! I have used this work in an exhibition during Easter 2016. A group of artists get together each year to hold an exhibition at a Fire Brigade. This year it is at Glenaroua. Commission from sales is donated to the brigade to add to funds to buy much needed equipment.

Pastel on Canson Mi-Teinte 'Tex' paper (Burgundy). My first pastel artwork for 2016. Straight off the easel today. My New Year's Resolution is NOT to frame my work so quickly, and to 'live' with it for a few days, as I always seem to find something which irritates me after I look at it for awhile. At the moment this is sitting my dresser, and being scrutinised regularly!

Pastel on Mi Teinte 'Tex' paper (burgundy) - 55cm x 35cm This is the Tarcombe area of Northern Victoria where we spent some time camping awhile ago. I finished it this afternoon (4/4/12). The old stock track and the old fence made a great foreground. I enjoyed the challenge of a foreground in shadow with a shaft of sunlight breaking through the clouds onto the hills. It does not give as good an impression of this effect in the photo as it does in the original painting. Grrr! Pastel on Canson Mi-Teinte 'Tex' Paper (burgundy) 55cm x 35cm approx. I did this from reference material obtained during a trip to Jamieson, near Mansfield, Victoria. This is known as the 'Jamieson Look Out Track' and it is pretty hair raising to drive through!!! After a couple of hours of white knuckles gripping my seatbelt, I was most relieved to see civilisation again! I snapped some photos through the windscreen and there was a lot of artistic licence involved in the final outcome.

Pastel on Canson paper (blue/smooth side) - 50cm x 35cm This is a painting from several years ago when I paid a visit to South Australia. "Hans Heysen":http://nga.gov.au/Exhibition/HEYSEN/ (1877-1968) is a very well known Australian Artist, probably best remembered for the way he could paint the eucalypt tree. I visited his home and studio set in Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills. It was incredible to sit beside this pool of water and take some notes and photos to enable me to paint this painting later on when I got home. It felt sort of 'spiritual' to be among the trees he used in his paintings.
