Royal Border Bridge spans the River Tweed between Berwick-upon-Tweed (the northernmost town in England) and Tweedmouth in Northumberland, England. It is a Grade I listed railway viaduct built between 1847 and 1850, when it was opened by Queen Victoria. The engineer who designed it was the famous Robert Stephenson (son of George Stephenson). It was built for the York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway and is still in regular use today, as part of the East Coast Main Line. The bridge is 659 metres long. It has 28 arches, constructed of brick but aesthetically faced with stone. The bridge is 38 metres above the river itself. In the 1990s it underwent significant repair work for the first time. These beautiful Victorian buildings are situated on Perth Road, in the small village of Birnam, near Dunkeld, Perthshire, Scotland. Holy Trinity Church, Dean Bridge, Edinburgh, Scotland. John Henderson was the architect, and the church was built in 1838 following the earlier construction of the Dean Bridge in 1832. The church was originally Scottish Episcopal but closed and was converted into an electricity transformer / sub-station. The church is currently home to: Christian Centre Ministries; incorporating - RHEMA Church - RHEMA Bible College - Kingdom Christian School - Women On the Word - Frontline Youth The church is located at the North side of the Dean Bridge which crosses the Water of Leith at Dean Village. A warm Spring day in East Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh, Scotland. Princes Street Gardens at the heart of Edinburgh’s City Centre were once a lake called Nor’ Loch. The Loch, which had been the trash dump of Edinburgh for centuries was drained in order to improve access from the New Town to the Old Town. Later, the Nor’ Loch was transformed into the beautiful Princes Street Gardens we see today. Top left can be seen some of Princes Street, Edinburgh's main shopping thoroughfare. A little further right you can see the Scott Monument. This monument to Sir Walter Scott is located on Princes Street. To its right is the Balmoral hotel. The hotel is located in the very heart of the city at 1 Princes Street.

The ruin of Carriden Old Church at Carriden, Bon’ess, Falkirk District, Scotland. Carriden Old Church was built in 1766 to replace the medieval church adjacent to Carriden House. It is T-shaped in plan and finished in simple Georgian style. An aedicule was attached to the north side of the building in 1771 to protect the monument to Sir William Maxwell of Carriden. A tower with a spire and a session house were added around 1840. When the new church was opened in 1909 the roof was taken off the old one and it is now a picturesque ruin. I was somewhat early for the RB meet in Edinburgh today (26 April 09) so Sylvia and I had a walk into the very pretty Dean Village. This shot is looking east from the little bridge (Bell's Brae Bridge) over the Water of Leith in Dean Village, Edinburgh, Scotland. The church is Holy Trinity Church at the North end of Dean Bridge. Later, Sylvia went off shopping and I went off to participate in the meet. Thank to Chris Clark for organising a good day out with a really nice bunch of people. Celebrity Edge has gardens and quiet sitting areas through out the ship. This one is located on the top deck and is a nice relaxing spot with lounges and a movie screen. HDR painting.

The view from high on the Tarpon Springs Boulevard (the only real road on the island of Halki, Greece), looking past the village of Nimborio towards Rhodes in the distance. Halki (Chalki) is a small yet very charming island in the Dodecanese that is situated opposite the west coast of Rhodes. The residents of Tarpon Springs, Florida, USA endowed Halki first with money for its stone clock tower, and, more lately, with the money to build the road to the Monastery far up in the mountains - the Boulevard Tarpon Springs, which took about 6 years, being finished in 1995. This monument to Sir Walter Scott is located on Princes Street, New Town, Edinburgh, Scotland. It was built during 1836-46. The architect was George Meikle Kemp (1795-1844), a joiner who entered the competition under a pseudonym to avoid prejudice; the joiner/architect sadly fell into the Union Canal in the fog and drowned before the work was completed. Brown's Place, built about 1820, in Edinburgh, Scotland, is a charming Georgian Square tucked away off the Grassmarket, halfway up the Vennel steps. The Vennel steps link Lauriston Place and the Grassmarket. The word "Vennel" derives from the French word "Venelle" (little street). The Union Canal, close to Old Philpstoun, West Lothian, Scotland (looking West). This 31.5 mile contour canal travels from The Falkirk Wheel to Edinburgh. Popular features of this gentle lock-free waterway include the Avon, Almond and Slateford Aqueducts, which are among the finest in Britain. I took this shot while on deployment in Okinawa, Japan. I ended up paying a visit to Shuri Castle in Naha. This place was amazing; there were so many places that made for great photos. I was in heaven. This stairway towards the entryway particularly struck my interest. It was raining out so I was a mess because I didn't have anything to use to cover my camera and I had to take the shot at the right time when the area was empty. This is a standard three exposure HDR tonemapped with Photomatix. I took a -2, 0, and +2. After I combined the images in Photomatix I brought the photo over to Photoshop CS5 where i further edited it with Nik Effex. I have been trying to make my HDR shots look more realistic lately. The gatehouse and pend which link Dunfermline Palace and Abbey. Some of the palace remains are just over the fence on the right, while some of the remains of the Abbey are behind the Gatehouse. Dunfermline Palace is a former Scottish Royal Palace in Dunfermline, Fife. It is currently a ruin under the care of Historic Scotland and an important tourist attraction in Dunfermline. Dunfermline was a favourite residence of many Scottish monarchs. Documented history of royal residence there begins in the 11th century with Malcolm III who made it his capital. His seat was the nearby Malcolm's Tower, a few hundred yards to the west of the later palace. In the medieval period David II and James I of Scotland were both born at Dunfermline.

Everywhere you turn in the village of Nimborio, the only settlement on the beautiful Greek Island of Halki (Chalki), there is another photo opportunity. Halki is a small, charming island, part of the Dodecanese Group of Greek islands, situated opposite the west coast of the Island of Rhodes. Three bracketed JPGs converted to HDR in Photomatix Pro.

The Clock Tower of the magnificent Town House in Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland, taken from the banks of the Union Canal, a little bit East from the Railway station. Built in 1668-70 to replace the original tolbooth, demolished on the orders of Oliver Cromwell. Altered over the years, it now accommodates the Burgh Halls (including the Council Chamber of the former Linlithgow Town Council) and the local Visitor Awareness Centre. Incidently, Linlithgow is the town where I was born. I lived there until I married. When I was much younger, my friends and I would go to the “Dancing” in the Town House on a Saturday night.
