Narrowboat Magnets

'Nice Item' - an aptly named narrowbooat moored up against the Thames Path at Lechlade, Gloucestershire. This is about as far upstram as you can get on the thames as after Lechlade it becomes narrower and shallower! In the background is the parish church of St Lawrence at Lechlade its spire being a local landmark. Lechlade is at the southern tip of the Cotswolds and is very close to the Oxfordshire border. This image has added textures in the style of an oil painting.

A narrowboat passing through the lower gates of Aldermaston Lock on the Kennet and Avon Canal in the late afternoon. The lock is at Aldermaston wharf, a mile or so north of Aldermaston village in West Berkshire. Now peaceful, the Wharf was once a hive of activity with boats being loaded and unloaded with coal, building stone, agricultural implements and foodstuffs. Here were also the carpenters and smiths necessary for the running of the canal. A digital drawing from my original photograph.

A lived-in narrowboat moored on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Hungerford in Berkshire, England. This image was captured on a sunny autumn afternoon with the still water reflecting the trees. The Kennet and Avon Canal, 87 miles long, was constructed between 1794 and 1810 to link the Kennet and Avon rivers and thus provide a smooth transport link between Bristol and London via Reading. It fell into disuse due to the Great Western Railway but was completely restored and reopened in 1990.

A second chromosome discovered by Professors of Genetics Dans les Gènes – Geneticist – University du Siene, Paris Professor Sna Géinte – Geneticist – University Craic ar chanáil na Búille, Roscommon, This chromosome bears a striking resemblance to the lock keys or windlasses used on mechanisms on the British Canal Network so was named after them. From a distance the chromosome looks solid in length however under closer inspection it was found to have hollow sections along the long legs, which when combined with the B L W chromosome lock together making for a inseparable almost seamless bond. Our Studies found this to be most commonly found in people with a demonstrated affinity to inland waterways.

The Kennet and Avon Canal as it passes through Newbury in Berkshire. This scene, taken from the West Mills swing bridge shows the canal as it heads towards the centre of the town, about to pass through Town Lock. On the right bank is the site of West Mills - Newbury was once a busy agricultural and woollen textile manufacturing centre. The tower of St Nicolas church, restored during the early 1500s stands above the surrounding buildings.

The second of the two Chromosomes that BLW can pair with is the Prop Chromosomes. When seen under a microscope the propeller shaped strands can clearly be seen, hence it was Christian the Prop by Professor Sna Géinte – Geneticist – University Craic ar chanáil na Búille, Roscommon back in 1961. It is often found in sailors and sub marinors as well as those considered at risk of BOAT syndrome. It has been noted that those with this chromosome often walk as if drunk on dry land or suffer from vertigo attacks when first stepping ashore.

A narrowboat moored next to a restaurant, once a watermill, on the banks of the Thames at Maidenhead in Berkshire. Just behind us the river passes through Boulters Lock, the subject of paintings especially in Victorian and Edwardian times. This is Ray Mill Island and in the background a new footbridge leads over the river to Taplow. A lovely place to stop for refreshment on your journey along this beautiful river.

This canal barge can be found in a man made loch on the Auchlochan Estate in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It can not go anywhere other than circle around the small loch, so in reality, it is an art object. Auchlochan is a purpose build Retirement Village and Elderly Care Home. It has lovely gardens and several man made small lochs. Auchlochan means (the) ‘Field of the small loch’. The current lochs at Auchlochan are man made and no one knows where the original loch was. Some believe it was a reference to the River Nethan which meanders through the estate. Three bracketed JPGs converted to HDR in Photomatix Pro.

The Regent’s Canal offers an oasis of calm in the capital. It was once London’s best kept secret, but now we’re spreading the word with walkers, boaters, commuters and everyone looking to escape the busy city streets.

A piece of my digital art featuring an oak tree, and my narrowboat no problem which got hit by an 100 year oak tree last week causing £36,000 worth of damage, that we know of so far, may be more once start strippng the boat for repair, that is of course if the insurance company ok repairs and do not decide to write off.
