Goddess Hel Mugs

This started as a simple tattoo design and I added more to it to look more Mucha inspired as well as have more design overall. The woman is actually a design for the Norse goddess Hel. Which is why half of her looks the way it does. The more greenish part of her is the half that is decayed.

In Norse mythology, Hel is the ruler of the underworld or world of the dead, which is also called Helheim. She is surrounded by her siblings - the Fenris Wolf and the Midgard Serpent. This is Hel, Hela of the Norns, Halja, the Death Queen, Mistress of the Darkness, Asgardian Goddess of Death, Ruler of Hel and Niffleheim, daughter of Loki. My other illustration for the “Marvel Villains Design Contest” entry back in 2012. Hela was born in Jotunheim, the other-dimensional land of the giants, one of the “Nine Worlds” of Norse mythology, and she is the daughter of the Asgardian god of mischief Loki and the sorcery wielding giantess Angerboda.
