Grand Union Canal, Brentford, August 2020 The Grand Union Canal is part of the British canal system. Its main line starts in London and ends in Birmingham, a total distance of 137 miles (220 km) with 166 locks. It also has arms to several places including Leicester, Slough, Aylesbury, Wendover and Northampton. The Grand Union Canal came into being on 1st January 1929, as a result of the amalgamation of several different canals, and at 286.3 miles (460.8 km), it is by far the longest (merged) canal in the UK. This shot was taken at the London end of the canal in Brentford, where the canal is linked to the River Thames.
