Overcast Posters and Art Prints

This is an image of the top of one of the columns on the eastern end of the Erechtheion temple within the Acropolis complex in Athens. Although 2500 years have taken their toll on the ancient marble, it is amazing how much extraordinary detail remains. The Ionic capital at the top of the fluted column retains all of its majestic beauty as it continues in its role of supporting the architrave above.

Cactus in the Tree - Flood 2010 - Bentsen Rio State Park by Debra Martz I shot this image back in January 2017 while hiking the trails at Bentson-Rio State Park in southern Texas, thinking it was kind of odd seeing cactus high up in the tree. On a return trip to the park in March 2017, I took a tram ride and the driver stopped and pointed out that very cactus. She explained how the landscape was completely changed by the flood of 2010 and the cactus not only showed how high the waters were but that was the only cactus left in the park in the aftermath. So once back home, I started searching through my images. That tree with the cactus now had a story to tell. July, 2010, hurricane Alex slammed northern Mexico and unleashed heavy ...

Lorain Lighthouse is at the north end of the West Harbor Breakwater in Lorain Harbor. With its light in tact, remains a silent reminder of the Lorain historic relationship with Lake Erie shipping. The date of 1917 is the most accurate available for the construction of the current Lorain Lighthouse structure.

Fingal Head on New South Wales' Tweed Coast is one of the few examples of this geological formation -- called columnar jointing -- in the world. The other, more famous, examples are the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland and Fingal's Cave in Scotland. No surprise that this and the Scottish formation are both named after the same ancient Scottish hero!

Moody Beach Geometric

Held annually, in February, is the street carnival, Heraklion, Crete.

This image was taken in Depoe Bay, OR on August 21, 2017. To capture different aspects of the total eclipse, I set my cameras up for bracketed exposures, over and under exposing the images by 2 and 4 stops. To capture any Red Prominences (the bright, gaseous features extending outward from the Sun's surface, and into the Sun's corona) that might be visible, this image was underexposed by 2 stops. This underexposure allowed the camera to capture any of the bright prominences, at the expense of not being able to capture the less bright corona. In this image, taken seconds before the end of totality, you can see several prominences, most notably the one at 1 o'clock.
