Description: Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas is a Grammy-winning American singer, songwriter, actress, and author. Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Ashanti started performing and writing songs as a child. She set a triple jump record at her high school and was offered an athletic scholarship, but chose to pursue music instead. Record producer Irv Gotti discovered Ashanti as a teenager and signed her to Murder Inc. Records in 2002.
Description: "Akofena" in the Akan language means “sword of war.” It also represents the state ceremonial swords. It is a symbol of state authority, legality, the legitimized authority of a ruler, recognition of gallantry of heroic deeds. Ghana’s coat of arms shows one of these ceremonial swords crossed with a linguist’s staff in its top left quadrant.
