It was well-known as one of the wildest go-fo-broke races on the west coast and attracted the best racers from across America. The 600-acre park had a larger purpose which was to play host to Hollywood studios as a versatile backdrop for all kinds of film and television projects, including what would be the Dukes of Hazzard's most death-defying jump of all time. Of course, most folks remember it as the place to head out with your buddies to ride dirt bikes and dune buggies, or even to take in organized motocross racing events.

Description: The Catalina Grand Prix was one of the biggest races In the country at the time. It was a 100-mile event held on Santa Catalina Island of the coast of Los Angeles. The 10-mile course was a mixture of road, dirt fire trails, singletrack, and even went through a golf course. Cycle Magazine noted that many of the big AMA national riders skipped Catalina so as not to suffer embarrassment at the hands of Southern California scramble riders who were known to dominate the event.
Description: Reggie 'Rat' Dennison, was a custom chopper builder and owner of Rat's Chops, a custom motorcycle speed shop that ran out of Oakland's Acorn neighborhood throughout the '70s and well into the '80s. Unlike a lot of shops that were always trying to build the next crazy thing and gain prestige through awards and magazine features, Rat didn't play that game. Rat and his crew built choppers to ride, not to fawn over in magazines. In addition to all the typical old school chopper customizations, Rat's Chops also specialized in making them fast, and were one of the first shops to manufacture their own superchargers, turning choppers into veritable land rockets.
Description: Altamont Speedway was a motorsports racetrack located in northern California, west of Tracy. The track opened on July 22, 1966. Altamont contained a variety of different track configurations including a 1/2 mile oval, 1/4 mile oval, 1.1-mile road course, and a figure 8 track, and was the state's largest oval racetrack north of Los Angeles. Altamont Speedway is well known for its December 6, 1969, hosting of the notorious and ill-fated Altamont Free Concert, featuring several top rock acts. After 42 years of racing, the speedway closed in October 2008.
