Description: Continuing series of great places to surf on the west coast. Volcanoes is a lava rock reef break, which is on the way to Cab San Quintin. Volcanoes is worth checking out on the way there. Volcanoes is good and can get really heavy, definitely experts only. Volcanoes stretches from the village of "Los Volcanes" to just north of the village of "El Playon," which is also an excellent break. This whole area has great surf that is always going- off. Make sure that you wear booties, due to the sharp lava rocks at Volcanoes.

It is a peak in swells up to 6ft (2m) but Margaret’s is all about size and the lefts will handle plenty of that. Heartstopping drops, lumpy bowls and cutback walls are all part of the waves’ personality and it can handle a healthy dose of onshore wind, maintaining shape and some face smoothness for long, swooping turns. Watch out for speed bumps when cranking off the bottom and keep an eye on the horizon. Getting caught inside is no fun and positively dangerous if taking on the rights. It is actually easiest to access Sloughs from Imperial Beach, since getting there from Playas de Tijuana would mean paddling north across the border and could result in attracting attention from the Border Patrol. This is a wave that changes greatly depending on the season, the amount of recent rainfall and swell direction. It is usually best in the wintertime on the big Northwest swells.
