The Basil Rathbone The Hound Of The Baskervilles design is inspired by Sidney Lanfield's 1939 adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic The Hound Of The Baskervilles starring Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Doctor Watson. Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson investigate the legend of a supernatural hound, a beast that may be stalking a young heir on the fog-shrouded moorland that makes up his estate.

The sleuth of Baker Street is timeless. It has been over 100 years since the first story featuring Holmes was published in 1887's A Study in Scarlet. The character and stories have had a profound and lasting effect on mystery writing and popular culture as a whole. We love to revisit the old stories just as much (if not more) than we like coming up with new stories. We love translating Sherlock Holmes into every medium we’ve had in that span theater, radio, movies, TV, comics, everything. Holmes has been at home on television since 1950. The Sherlock Holmes And The Spider Woman Design is inspired by the 1943 mystery film starring Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Doctor Watson. The seventh in a series of Universal Holmes movies featuring Rathbone and Bruce, Sherlock Holmes And The Spider Woman features elements from numerous original Conan Doyle stories including The Sign Of The Four, The Final Problem and The Adventure of the Devil's Foot, but with the setting updated to the then present day rather than the original Victorian setting.

In a radio interview Rathbone recalled that Twentieth Century-Fox producer and director Gene Markey, lunching with producer-director-actor Gregory Ratoff and 20th Century-Fox mogul Daryl Zanuck at Lucey's Restaurant in Hollywood, proposed a film version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles. When asked who could possibly play Holmes, Markey incredulously replied, "Who?! Basil Rathbone!" An English actor widely considered to be the definitive Holmes of his era. Basil Rathbone’s portrayal of Sherlock Holmes is so empowering and inspirational for both children and adults on film. The Hound of the Baskervilles is the third of the four crime novels written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle featuring the detective Sherlock Holmes. Sidney Edward Paget (4 October 1860 – 28 January 1908) was a British illustrator of the Victorian era, best known for his illustrations that accompanied Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories in The Strand Magazine. When Sir Arthur Conan Doyle revived the Sherlock Holmes series with The Hound of the Baskervilles, serializedVictorian era in The Strand in 1901–02, he specifically requested that Paget be the illustrator.

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a collection of twelve short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, featuring his fictional detective Sherlock Holmes. It was first published on 14 October 1892; the individual stories had been serialized in The Strand Magazine between July 1891 and June 1892. The stories are not in chronological order, and the only characters common to all twelve are Holmes and Dr. Watson. The stories are related in first-person narrative from Watson's point of view.

Rathbone and Bruce are the classic Holmes and Watson. Others have played the roles admirably and Bruce is often criticised for his bumbling Dr. Watson, but it's their off-screen friendship and the chemistry of Rathbone and Bruce that seeps through the celluloid and adds real flesh to the characters.
