Commission piece for a client. I figure it would be handy to have a shirt to point to when you are obviously asked to do the thing. The thing that you know how to do. The thing you obviously know what to do...

For 2 years of my time at the Jungle Cruise, I ended my trips by pulling up to the dock and saying "Welcome back to that magical land of adventure that we like to call... Adventureland". But, there was a sub-joke that happened when a boat loader named Brien would detect a pause, and before I said "Adventureland" he would say "Dangerplace" and cut me off. So, for months this went on and became it's own joke, so it gets a shirt too...
Oh, and for 12 years I have hosted a podcast about the Jungle Cruise at all 4 Disney parks that have it. It's a lot of fun, and fans of Disney or adventure should check it out everywhere podcasts can be downloaded.

"Welcome back to that magical land of adventure that we like to call... Adventureland" was how I ended my boat trips for 2 years at Disneyland's Jungle Cruise. I always wanted to make a shirt based around that line, so here it is.
Also, for 12 years I've hosted a podcast called "Tales from the Jungle Crews". If you're a Disney fan, or a Jungle Cruise fan, it's a great listen...

We wanted to show that Jungle Cruise Skippers have a heart. I, for example, have multiple ones, in jars... under my bed. But, enough about my weekend hobbies. We know that the heart of a Skipper beats with pure passion, amazing adventure, and silky sarcasm.

Jungle Cruise Skippers are certainly a breed apart, and it's always good to have a distinct and clear image to show people your love of the Jungle and it's hippo inhabitants...

I've been trying to play with retro styles lately, and this was based off an old 1970's t-shirt that I found. I tried to imagine how this pattern would feel on an old shirt, so the tri-blend t-shirts with their heathered styles are probably the best fit. I also did a non-distressed version of this, if you aren't into a wash and wear feel.
It's a phrase well known to those who frequent the Rivers of Adventure. A sign that the trip is beginning. A sign that the river awaits. A sign of things to come...

It's great seeing LGBTQ representation in Disney movies, and the Jungle Cruise movie (while not overly pronounced) did have a touching moment with Jack Whitehall's character. We had so much demand, we wanted to do something to celebrate this moment...

Somehow it's been 10 years since we launched our podcast, and we've had people asking if we were going to create any shirts for it. (Answer: yes) So, here's one of two beauties celebrating that we've made it 10 years with 3.5 million downloads and a ton of episodes...

Skipper Blue did an amazing job on his Skipper Frank drawing, and people want it as a straight graphic shirt, so here we are.
We're super excited about the Jungle Cruise Movie, and our shop and podcast have all sorts of great info about it. Tales from the Jungle Crews, everywhere podcasts are downloaded

We hear that in the depths of the Amazon, there's a Jungle Skipper who is willing to risk the highest perils for the sake of taking his passengers up the river. Skipper Frank is certainly one of a kind, and he's definitely going to be a legend.

So, a few years ago, there was a Facebook thread among Jungle Cruise Skippers of multiple generations. The older Skippers were upset about the "feminization" of the Jungle. Skipper Richard Wallace has done some amazing art of female Skippers hanging out in the Jungle for one of our card games. I thought I'd give them some new life.

Once upon a time, two guys had a dream. To make the best darn tiki bar ever... in the back yard of their apartment. And for a while, that brief shining dream came true in the form of Malaria Mike's. (And I thought it was just about time to make a t-shirt out of it.)
Oh, and all sales from this shirt will go to benefit Skipper Eddie and Skipper Mike, the founders of Malaria Mike's.
Imagine that it's 1986. Some of your favorite cartoons are in the afternoon. What if there was a "lost" Jungle Cruise cartoon that was barely remembered? Do you remember it? Going back all those years? Somewhere after Rescue Rangers & before Tail Spin? Ah, well, our memories play tricks on us... Well, it didn't really happen that way, but this shirt featuring art from Skipper Richard Wallace imagines such an amazing event. Now if only they will make a major theatrical movie featuring the Jungle Cruise... (This shirt looks best on the tri-blend cotton shirts in the weathered tones, but will work on any mid-range color... your choice) We are offering two different looks, a pre-aged version and a 'clean' version...

There's a big generational gap between Jungle Cruise Skippers. The split happens in the late 90's, when the spelling of "Boat" suddenly changed to "Bote". Well, to make sure that we are representing all generations, we have shirts available now with both spellings.

So, I could give you a nice long explanation of why the Skippers of Disney's Jungle Cruise ride spell it "Bote" when so many other people spell it "Boat". But, it's a long and boring story, with a lot of historical call backs to the 1970's and 80's...
So, instead, I'll tell you that the primary people who are probably looking at this shirt are the Skippers and fans of the ride, because they were probably linked here because of the Jungle Crews podcast, the oral history of Disney's Jungle Cruise ride. Hundreds of hours of really great stories of an incredibly fun job that was loved by all.

So, as a designer, I sort of have a niche. (Disney/JungleCruise/Tiki) The Skipper Store has 6 different designers who do a variety of items, but they are all sort of in that same category. So, I thought, why not broaden the Skipper Store and try playing with a few other designs and styles. They may not be as much of a "click" for our core audience, but why not give them a run, right?
This one has a bit of the obvious Kawaii influence, but it was just sort of a starting point for me to play with a whole different look and style.

Richard Wallace is amazing. Both as a Skipper and an artist. I assume this is not a self portrait, as Richard is much taller, and not a cartoon.
This and our other new shirt, B is for Bote, are us kicking around some concepts for a children's alphabet board book that will be happening at some point. This was so darn cute, though, we wanted to make it available earlier.

Not only is Bertha the most famous elephant in the Indian Elephant Bathing Pool, she is also skilled in her after hours activities. After years of bringing the beats to the Jungle Pool Party, she is now doing sets at a local night club, Sam’s Place. She’s definitely the only DJ who ever scratches the vinyl with their nose.

Tangeroa Ru, Goddess of the East Wind, and her sister Hina Kaluua travel together, wind and rain. They journey across the 7 Seas, and the Tangeroa Ru' M is the home to the best imaginary tropical drinks that have ever been had at a non-existent bar ever.

There's a lot of misconception about the misspellings of "Bote" that are out there. Some people even think there is an "A" in it. (I guess there is... "A bote") But, Jungle Skippers of modern generations know their vehicles of choice by this 4 letter name.
This work features art by Skipper Richard Wallace, one of the contributors to the Skipper Store

Skipper Richard Wallace is the gift that keeps on giving. Last year, we did a bunch of art for a Kickstarter game, and we had a lot of pieces left over. We're going to start uploading them so you can have some fun with them. This little beauty is going straight onto a black t-shirt, and also a car sticker for me.

There's a joke at the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland... it goes something like this...
(Pulling into the Hippopotamus pool at night...)
"Now, we have had a miraculous thing happen right here at the Jungle Cruise, right here in the Hippo pool. Just a few days ago, a baby hippo was born here in the Hippo pool. And on quiet nights, like tonight, when the moon is shining, you can sometimes hear the baby hippo calling out to it's mother... Why don't you just listen. Nice and quiet now..."
<long pause>
"HEY MA!"
"There it is folks... did you hear it."
Now, that's a total inside joke, and one that barely anyone will get, but I had a friend who wanted it on a shirt, so I made it, and here it is...
That's the thing about being a Jungle Cruise Skipper... Everyone assumes you have a joke for everything. Luckily, you probably do.
And remember that when it comes to wordplay, a good pun is it's own re-word.
