13th Century T-Shirts

Though often portrayed as a medieval knight, Saint George was a late 3rd-early 4th century military tribune (martyred circa 303). According to legend, George heroically killed a dragon that had been terrorising the countryside around Silena in Libya. This particular portrayal of the warrior-saint by Richard H. Fay depicts him armed as a knight of the 13th century.

Clad in mail hauberk, mail chausses, and flat-topped iron helm, a medieval knight of the early thirteenth century hold his emblazoned shield and pennoned lance in this original artwork by Richard H. Fay.

Crucifixation of Jesus Christ - 13th century Sicily

This beautiful historic parish church of St Mary the Virgin and All Saints, Fotheringhay, Northamptonshire, UK, with its lantern tower. Fotheringhay was where Mary, Queen of Scots, was executed at the nearby Fotheringhay Castle.

The lovely five arches of this 13th century bridge at Bakewell, Derbyshire, UK, with ducks all swimming around on the river Wye.

This is an image of the west facade of Salisbury Cathedral What a place; enormous in scale and divine in its decoration. This is a place that was built during the 13th century, so that's about 750–800 years ago. The spire is the tallest of any church in England with a height of 404 feet. I must admit that I really enjoy photographing old cathedrals; they have a majesty that is quite sublime. What gets me is the depth of faith that the people who toiled to build such a place must have had. Many would have probably worked on such a place all their working lives. A couple of interesting facts about the cathedral, because I've seem them, are it houses one of the four remaining copies of the Magna Carta and the world's oldest working cloc...

The ancient Market Cross in Higham Ferrers, built in the 13th century and erected by the burgesses as a visible reminder of their faith. It was commonly used to bind oaths and contracts made before it. The Mayor was given the authority to publish the Banns of Marriage from the cross, and also to conduct the marriage ceremony there. The stunning west porch of St Mary's church in Higham Ferrers (Northamptonshire UK) Part of the original church, it was built between 1270-80. The roundels in the Tympanum depict scenes from the lives of Jesus Christ and Mary. Around each of the twin doorways are carved Old Testament characters of David's line which found fulfillment with the birth of Christ, who forms the centrepiece in his mother's arms. It is thought to be the work of the foreign masons employed to rebuild Westminster Abbey as it resembles the style and quality found there. HDR photography

The landscape of Wales is dotted with Castles, times of Majesty, mystery and bravery! The Welsh Prince Llywelyn Ap Iorweth a.k.a. Llewelyn the Great built Dolbadarn before the creation of Caernarfon Castle in the 13th Century. In 1284 Dolbadarn was taken - by arch enemy of Llewelyn, Edward the first, who removed some of its timbers - to build his new castle at Caernarfon. Within the framework of Welsh thinking ~ I am sure that this was the upmost insult..! Dolbadarn still remains to this very day as one of Wales most iconic and small fortress like Castles... "the finest surviving example of a Welsh round tower" ~ although we have many Castles in Wales! In its idyllic setting that is Llanberis and the famous mountain range ...
