Introduced in 1873 by Drummond Tobacco Company in St. Louis, Chesterfield Cigarettes gained popularity for their exotic blend of Turkish and Virginia tobaccos. Turkish tobacco added aromatic, sweet, and nutty notes, while Virginia tobacco provided strength and balance. In 1912, Liggett & Myers acquired the brand and moved production to Durham, North Carolina. Iconic ad campaigns like “It satisfies” and “Blow some my way” helped Chesterfield become a leading cigarette brand in the early 20th century.
