A digital sketch of the Marina at Conwy, North Wales. Beautifully situated, this marina looks over the estuary of the River Conwy to Deganwy and the high ground surrounding Llandudno - notably the Great Orme. Conwy itself is steeped in history evidenced in the mighty castle standing guard over the town - a world heritage site. Here though, boats sit quietly at anchor or tied up at the jetties, their shapes reflected in the calm water.

Southern Swan Sailing Ship, Sydney, NSW, Australia Southern Swan is a traditional Baltic trader, currently rigged as a three-masted barquentine. She is typical of coastal trading ships from the era 1840s to 1940s.

Maryport is the southernmost town on the Solway Firth and across the water can be seen the Scottish coast, This was once a thriving port centred round the coal and ship building industries. Having declined in importance since Victorian times, it is now developing as a holiday and cultural centre and the harbour is now home to fishing boats and yachts.

Shooting between the fence posts near the south pylon of the Harbour Bridge turned out to be easier because there were less people & less interruptions by ferries & cruise boats. I spotted this scene when I was in Weymouth (Dorset, UK) last year - a man making repairs to some fishing gear, beside his boat, at the quayside. Having found a nice way to frame the scene I've now painted this in oil on a 12x12 inch board - one of hopefully a series of people working in interesting jobs.

Lightship 2000 is a restored old red Light vessel with a cafe and chapel on board situated in Cardiff Bay. The ship was launched in 1953 and from that year until 1989 it was a working light vessel in a number of locations around the UK, ending its working life at Rhossili on the Gower Peninsula to warn of the Helwick Swatch, a treacherous sandbank. It was purchased in 1993 and refurbished as a floating Christian centre.
