I have been a fan of Doctor who since the 70s. Over the past few years i have done a series of Paintings from Space and time to pop art splat. This is part of the The time and space series which is making the Doctor and tardis part of the universe and time. The original paintings that these images come from are much bigger and in a Wide screen style. To use these for T shirts etc I have cropped the design and modified them from my original paintings. This particular one is a reinvention of one i did last year after seeing images of Neil Patrick Harris with a newer version of the 14th Doctor and a new logo based on the 70s logo and new one that Russell T Davies has done. Over the last week as I worked on this portrait, I debated with myself over what to title this one. Initially, I was going to go with 'The Madman.' Then I considered 'The Dichotomy' because the 11th Doctor was both young and old. 'The Hipster' because his aesthetic style sort of reflected the current hipster trends. 'The Chin' because that's what several characters called him. And a few others. I landed on 'The Promise.' The longest running narrative thread in Doctor Who is the title. Nobody knows the Doctor's real name (save River Song and one other person, which I assume is his first wife). It's sort of a running (meta)joke where characters often ask, 'Doctor? Doctor who?' When the hands of humanity turn to doctors for support, hope and respect! It reminds us of how we act as one in times of crisis and should not forget the people who try to make the rest of the world a safer place to live. Thank you, NHS!
