The group is overcome by paranoia and conflict as they learn that they can no longer trust each other and that any one of them could be the Thing.

Jed was of course famously adopted by then US President Ronald Reagan, who brought him to live at the White House from that point on. Alien conspiracy theories attached to a dramatic shift in White House policy shortly thereafter coinciding with Jed's sudden disappearance are completely untrue. Completely.
