This work depicts a series of roof tops in Tel Aviv. I used to live here and have always been taken with these little parcels of space that live between city and sky, places where at night one can sit under stars. They are oddly private spots, accessed by metal doors and shared with baking hot metal water containers. Here the tar melts, plants wither under the glare. And yet in the yards between buildings are patches of dark shadow, of intense shade, relics of Eden, scented by orange blossom and wild mint. The work radiates heat and has an intense realism.

Go Wild

A sleepy village in the East of England, a place that reminds me of summer, a place where the air is scented with lilac, with hay, honeysuckle and roses. A corner of a lost paradise, where my heart aches with longing under a blue sky. The houses draw us down the street to a place where the sky meets the trees. It is timeless, reminiscent of pre-industrial times. The work is rich in colour and vivid in detail and texture. A lovely gift, a great addition to any collection, a perfect souvenir of England.

Seven Sisters, San Francisco

A lovely open sky in California, the first day in San Francisco, and I set out to discover the place I had always dreamed of visiting. I am struck by a house on a corner, the light shining through the bay windows, the wooden slats a beautiful shade of light green. I am carried away to an idealised America, icons of simpler times, a world of solid values and delicious food. The work is rich in detail, rich too in light and shadow and colour. It is a perfect souvenir of San Francisco, an ideal gift.

Oxford, Pastel Coloured Houses

An empty train, deep underground. The promise of movement and travel and freedom, the promise of the city that lies above. The scene is evocative of times past, of an idealised Americana, of a world that is large and spacious, solid and reassuring. There is an eerie light in the carriage, a sensation of darkness and mystery outside. The carriage sides are green, tinged with blue, perhaps turquoise, the seats darker. The floor is a carpet of autumn hues, red and brown, with slithers of neon light above. The work is both striking and unusual, a wonderful piece of American art to add to any collection, a great souvenir of New York.

A secular pilgrimage long dreamed of and finally arrived, a place of wonder, of longing fulfilled and reawakened too. It felt so vast, that I could travel for days, weeks even and never reach the end. My own American dream was formed by 1970s dramas, films, books and fantasies, a land of palm trees and long streets, of huge cities where I could lose myself in a maze of teeming neighbourhoods of promise. Having arrived, finally, jet lagged and redolent of long haul travel, I set out to explore this promised land. I fell in love with the signage, tatty, dated, a reminder of my own 1970s American dream. This work is rich in bright colour, youthful and joyful, with close attention to detail. A great gift, a wonderful collection starter.

Edinburgh, A View From Leith Walk

This work depicts a small, sunny drenched section of Forest Road in Walthamstow. There is heat and shadow, a feeling of urban lassitude. The street is quiet, echoes of Sunday perhaps.

Dusk is settling over the city. A parcel of sky draws us upwards, bordered by sparking metal rails, and by concrete towers that dwarf us. Dark shadows below are eerie, damp patches of darkness. The trains thunder by, dragon-like. The city awaits us, inviting us to lose ourselves, to vanish into the labyrinth. This work is full of atmosphere, of Americana, and rich in colour.

This work depicts a Cuban street, a riot of peach and raspberry, colours of summer, of heat, and blues, minty, cool, reminiscent of long drinks. The sun is tiring, the party vibe awakening, as the day’s heat soaks into the vibrant, orange stucco. The work is full of life, of contrast and of small details that bring it to life. A fantastic gift, a wonderful addition to any collection of art works.
