Cambridgeshire (abbreviated Cambs.) is a county in the East of England, bordering Lincolnshire to the north, Norfolk to the north-east, Suffolk to the east, Essex and Hertfordshire to the south, and Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire to the west. The city of Cambridge is the county town. Modern Cambridgeshire was formed in 1974 as an amalgamation of the counties of Cambridgeshire and Isle of Ely and Huntingdon and Peterborough, the former covering the historic county of Cambridgeshire (including the Isle of Ely) and the latter covering the historic county of Huntingdonshire and the Soke of Peterborough, historically part of Northamptonshire. Pastel on Mi-Teinte Tex Paper 55cm x 35cm approx. This is 'The Church of the Holy Cross', Yelling. Definitely something completely different for me!!! Not only to paint such a very old building, but to depict it in the snow!!!! I did this at the request of my brother. It is the old Norman Church in the village where I lived as a child in the U.K. Built in 1180, it is a really beautiful building, as many of the British churches are. Nothing that old in Australia!!!! My brother recalled how he and I used to lie in our beds on Christmas Eve listening to the bells ringing and trying to go to sleep so that Santa would come! Wooden Chinese Bridge, Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND. It was built in 1827 following the fashion for oriental art. Made of wood with symetric mathematical design it looks striking with fresh white paint. There is even a song about it. Here is a very short extract ...
